ABOUT THIS ROLE
<p>Delivers a fundamental understanding of adult learning principles and a lifelong learner that can practice with flexibility to adapt or change learning strategies based on the assessment of learning needs within the healthcare organization. Functions as a formal and informal educator; serving as a liaison between internal and external customers.</p><h3>Major Duties</h3><p>Major Duties: The Nurse Academics Coordinator/Nurse Educator is responsible for providing expert, evidence-based education to staff. Provides educational instruction and training for nursing staff in clinical and outpatient units. The Academics Coordinator understands instructional design, implementation, and application related to education and training. Performs learning needs assessments, develops educational trainings for clinical staff within organization. Assumes accountability for the implementation, coordination, and program development related to the support of scholarships and academic affiliations. Responsible and accountable for the planning, organization, and evaluation of the effectiveness related to clinical, informatics, and/or administrative process changes, analyzing issues impeding change, developing corrective actions to expedite change, and assuring optimum utilization of available resources to maintain a climate conducive to quality patient care and employee satisfaction. Responsible for the development, oversight, maintenance, training, data analysis and validation, and report generation as related to the scholarship and academic affiliation programs as outlines by the Healthcare Retention and Recruitment Office to the Scholarship and Clinical Education (S&CE) national office, the Office of Academic Affiliations, and their related Veterans Health Administration (VHA) directives. Utilizes a team approach when interacting with multidisciplinary teams and university affiliates. Manages scholarship program by assisting applicants for successful submission of application packets and provides timely and accurate communication to the Veterans Integrated Systems Network (VISN) and national representatives. Mentors recipients to successful completion of their programs and communicates for timely processing of payments. Guides staff towards appropriate clinical areas for preceptorship. Adheres to established policies, standards of care, and standards of practice managing scholarship funds and regulated affiliation agreements. Collaborates with leadership and unit managers to identify educational training needs for staff, while supporting activities that foster competence, critical thinking, and decision making. Provides consultation and collaboration through the participation within organizational committees. Ability to analyze, interpret, and evaluate data to determine outcomes and changes related to educational programs. Responsible for the documented outcomes at the program or service level. The Nurse is responsible and accountable for the development and delivery of Nursing Service staff professional development activities and will perform administrative coordination of various and numerous academic affiliation placements and on boarding process, including coordination and collaboration with nurse educators, HR, and or other relevant individuals and designees. They will provide support for the establishment and/or control of associated health affiliation agreements and will coordinate and provide continuing education programs designed for career advancement using innovation and creativity.
