ABOUT THIS ROLE
<p>Provide specialized dialysis care for Veterans with kidney disease at the VA Iowa City Health Care System. Join a collaborative, evidence-based, holistic practice. As an RN, use clinical judgment, advocacy, documentation, education, and quality improvement to support Veterans with ESRD, AKI, and late-stage CKD through safe, coordinated care.</p><h3>Major Duties</h3><p>The VA Midwest Health Care Network advocates for a Whole Health System of care in each of the Medical Centers. This is an approach to healthcare that empowers and equips people to take charge of their health and well-being and live their lives to the fullest. As an employee operating in a Whole Health System of care, you will operate in a model with three core elements, seeking to create a personalized health plan for each Veteran. This is done in the context of healing relationships and healing environments and a connection back to the Veteran's community. This aligns with the Veterans Health Administration (VHA) Mission Statement to Honor America's Veterans by providing exceptional health care that improves their health and well-being. Major duties include, but are not limited to: Responsible and accountable for all elements of the nursing process when providing and/or supervising direct patient care. Assumes responsibility for the coordination of care focused on patient education, self-management, and customer satisfaction throughout the continuum of care. Administers medications and procedures per established policies and guidelines. Influences care outcomes by collaborating with members of the interdisciplinary team. Demonstrates leadership when providing, directing, and improving care for patients with end-stage renal disease (ESRD), acute kidney injury (AKI), and late-stage chronic kidney disease (CKD). Collaborates with other disciplines/departments to achieve desired patient outcomes. Functions as primary nurse for end-stage renal disease patient panel and serves as key resource assisting patients navigate the healthcare system. Completes documentation for all clinical and technical recordkeeping in the electronic health record and treatment flowsheets in accordance with established policies and procedures. Uses a team approach to identify, analyze, and resolve patient care problems with measurable outcomes. Assists in directing the provision of nursing education, orientation, competencies and providing quality improvement and outcomes utilization consultation. Permanent Change of Station (PCS): Not authorized.</p><h3>Requirements</h3>U.S. Citizenship; non-citizens may only be appointed when it is not possible to recruit qualified citizens in accordance with VA Policy. All applicants tentatively selected for VA employment in a testing designated position are subject to urinalysis to screen for illegal drug use prior to appointment.
