<p>This position is eligible for the Education Debt Reduction Program (EDRP), a student loan payment reimbursement program. You must meet specific eligibility requirements per VHA policy and submit your EDRP application within four months of appointment. Program Approval, award amount (up to $200,000) & eligibility period (one to five years) are determined by the VHA Education Loan Repayment Services program office after review of the EDRP application. Former EDRP participants ineligible.</p><h3>Major Duties</h3><p>The Critical Care Registered Nurse (RN) is responsible for providing competent, evidence-based care to assigned patients and for overseeing licensed vocational nurses and nursing assistants, as appropriate to the setting. The nurse assists in directing nursing education, orientation, competency development, and provides consultation on quality improvement and outcomes utilization. Demonstrating leadership, the RN delivers and enhances holistic care through collaborative strategies with others. The nurse provides direct care to acutely or critically ill patients who are at high risk for actual or potential life-threatening health problems, regardless of the setting in which nursing care is provided. They deliver high-intensity care and vigilance, refining assessment skills and synthesizing data from a variety of invasive and noninvasive monitoring technologies. The nurse evaluates their practice on an ongoing basis, utilizing the best available evidence. They offer informal, constructive feedback to peers to foster improvement and create a safe and supportive environment conducive to the professional development of healthcare professionals. The RN contributes a professional nursing perspective in interdisciplinary team discussions and partners with others to promote change and produce optimal outcomes. The RN supports colleagues by sharing knowledge to provide safe, high-quality nursing care, and shares educational findings, experiences, and ideas with peers. They actively question clinical practices to uphold evidence-based care, and participate in activities and strategies to sustain a culture centered on evidence-based practice. This nurse is experienced in the situations in which they are expected to perform, integrating theoretical concepts, strong critical thinking, and robust technical skills into their practice. All applicants tentatively selected for VA employment in a testing designated position are subject to urinalysis to screen for illegal drug use prior to appointment. Applicants who refuse to be tested will be denied employment with VA. Selective Service Registration is required for males born after 12/31/1959. Subject to background/security investigation.
