<p>Thank you for your interest in the Full-Time Registered Nurse - Associate Chief Nurse for Community Care Service Line - within the Harry S. Truman Memorial Veterans' Hospital - Columbia, Missouri.</p><h3>Major Duties</h3><p>General Description of Assigned Duties: The Community Care Chief provides executive leadership and direct supervision to the Community Care department. The incumbent is responsible for a wide variety of functions related to Non-VA Medical Care and related medical processes; these include financial analysis, programmatic oversight of the Office of Community Care clinical and administrative staff and functions, local community care provider relationship development and VA Community Care national contractor maintenance, information management, performance of clinical/financial feasibility studies, and support in strategic planning efforts. Incumbent works under the general supervision of the Deputy Chief of Staff and works directly with the Office of the Chief of Staff. Incumbent is indirectly aligned to the Associate Director of Patient Care Services. Incumbent is a primary resource to these offices, to include the Medical Center Director's office, for projects related to Non-VA Medical Services, and is also expected to work on other related projects whenever appropriate. The position is accountable for the management, daily operations, and supervision of community care programs, and oversees nursing personnel and resources within this service. Responsibilities include planning, organizing, directing, controlling and evaluating programs and outcomes; daily attention to complex personnel management problems; participation in executive level decision making deliberations. Functions or Scope of Assigned Duties: The Associate Chief Nurse functions as an advisor, administrator, educator, consultant, and mentor who possesses a wide range of experience and leadership ability. The ACN supports the integration and collaboration of nursing with other professional disciplines and functional areas in the mutual achievement of patient-centered and organizational goals. They champion a High Reliability Organization (HRO) with a lifestyle of safety founded on a systems approach to developing evidence-based health care solutions based on prevention, not punishment, with collective mindfulness. The ACN collaborates with interdisciplinary team members, including other program and service leaders at the facility and network. They work closely to establish and maintain effective relationships with all levels of Veteran Affairs (VA) staff nationwide. The ACN relates effectively with customers, families, and the community as well as program and service leaders at the local and network levels. They assist the Deputy Chief of Staff, Chief of Staff, and Associate Director of Patient Care Services with healthcare operations and the functions and activities expected of them. The ACN contributes ideas and recommendations for the establishment of standards of care, policies, and objectives for the enhancement of nursing. Responsibilities include fact-finding and analysis of data (financial, cost, etc.) and preparation of managerial problems assigned to the incumbent for review. Incumbent identifies areas of concern independently, as a result of thorough analyses, and presents these to management with recommendations for resolution. Decisions on data source, methodology of data collection, techniques of analysis, standard operations policies, display of findings, conclusions, recommendations, are generally left to the discretion of the incumbent. Incumbent is responsible for the day to day operations of the Community Care Service, providing direction and oversight to the parties involved with its functionality.
