ABOUT THIS ROLE

<p>The Chief Nurse for Nursing Excellence reports to the Deputy Associate Director of Patient Care Services (DADPCS).</p><h3>Major Duties</h3><p>Provides leadership and oversight for daily clinical and administrative operations within the Nursing Clinical Excellence Section/Office. Functions as an advisor, administrator, educator, consultant, and mentor who possesses a wide range of experience and leadership ability. Champions of the professional nursing practice environment that supports clinical inquiry, innovation, and excellence. Functions as a consultant and mentor for evidence-based practice and process improvement (PI) initiatives that align with the facility and the Veterans Affairs (VA) mission and strategic plan. Ensures there are systems and processes in place to provide safe, quality care that is consistent with external benchmarks. Leads PI initiatives by identifying quality metrics and data trends, maintaining the quality metric dashboard, and acting as a subject matter expert in data analysis and data display. Supports the integration and collaboration of nursing with other professional disciplines and functional areas in the mutual achievement of patient-centered and organizational goals. Cultivates alliances across the care continuum, building trust through active listening, engagement, and emotional intelligence. Serves as a primary or alternate project manager for assigned programs and performs special projects. Researches and/or analyzes unstable or complex program issues, and, based on conditions and factors that relate to the subject program and related programs, determines what information is required. Compiles, assembles, and classifies statistics from source materials, computes statistical data, and verifies the authenticity of source material. Reviews information, reconciles conflicting data, and devises new or modified methods to analyze findings and to develop recommendations and proposals. Provides technical expertise to staff during the development of facility projects and/or programs, including systems redesign initiatives, employee engagement activities, annual training of service partners, award and recognition activities, development of goals, performance measures and priorities, and assistance in ensuring the organization's ability to respond to major changes while building continuous improvement and engagement for providing exceptional patient and employee experiences. Support nursing engagement in areas to include, but not limited to ANCC Magnet Recognition Programs, EBP, and Nursing Professional Governance.
