ABOUT THIS ROLE
<p>The Nurse Blind Rehabilitation Center (RCC) Registered Nurse (RN) is responsible for providing competent, evidence-based care to assigned residents and oversight of licensed vocational nurses/nursing assistants, as appropriate to the setting. The nurse will assist in directing the provision of nursing education, orientation, competencies and providing quality improvement and outcomes utilization consultation.</p><h3>Major Duties</h3><p>Blind Rehabilitation Center (BRC) Registered Nurse (RN) is responsible and accountable for individual nursing practice and determines the appropriate delegation of tasks consistent with the nurse's obligation to provide optimal care. The focus is on individual growth and development in practice with increased levels of self-direction. Ability to formulate a plan of care based on nursing assessments. Seeks guidance in how to improve care provided to Veterans and families. The nurse brings principles and theory with limited application of critical thinking skills. The BRC RN is knowledgeable and adheres to Commission on Accreditation of Rehabilitation Facilities (CARF) standards. Duties are as follows but not limited too: Applies clinical knowledge/judgment to lead staff involvement in planning, decision-making, and evaluating outcomes within the immediate practice setting. Effectively functions as a leader, with demonstrated outcomes, for the immediate practice setting. Improves Veteran/patient driven care by resolving experience issues such as coordination of care, timeliness or process issues, common themes of dissatisfaction, or environment of care concerns for the immediate practice setting. Applies patient, family, and caregiver knowledge, values, and beliefs into care delivery without judgement or discrimination. Serves as an advocate for patients, families, and caregivers, improving outcomes for the immediate practice setting. Serves as a resource for patients, caregivers, and staff to address and resolve ethical issues in the immediate practice setting. Leads the implementation of high reliability principles and I CARE values to increase consistency of care delivered and improve patient outcomes. Demonstrates the ability to improve the effectiveness of communication and interactions with others, to inspire their cooperation and confidence to ensure safe and effective outcomes in the current practice setting. Leads teams, contributes to team conferences, and actively collaborates in all phases of patient care planning. Successfully integrates objectives, opportunities, and resources. Expands knowledge base and practice evaluation through mentoring, precepting, and/or teaching to improve outcomes in the immediate practice setting. Leads education initiatives to expand knowledge with improved outcomes in the immediate practice setting. Takes responsibility for personal and professional career goals. Supports the professional growth of others. Participates in the advancement of the profession through mentoring, precepting, and/or teaching. Participates in the development, implementation, and evaluation of interdisciplinary care. Establishes a therapeutic relationship, allowing the patient to attain, maintain or regain optimal function through assessment and treatment. Knowledgeable of ethical issues related to professional nursing practice and follows established policies of the practice setting, VA, and ANA Code of Ethics for Nurses. Aware of high reliability principles to deliver consistent care and improve patient outcomes. Demonstrates positive, effective communication skills and professional behaviors that promote cooperation and teamwork with internal and external customers. Participates in unit based educational activities and continuing education requirements. Responsible for maintaining competency to continue personal and professional growth. Applies evidence-based practice/research to patient care. Participates in unit-based activities to improve and deliver cost effective patient care. Demonstrates knowledge of specific unit level performance improvement activities. Incorporates patient preferences into shared care delivery decisions.
