<p>The Supervisory Assistant Nurse Manager (ANM) supports the Nurse Manager (NM) in Acute Care (1B) overseeing operations of a nursing unit/patient care area. Fosters team development, ensures compliance with standards of clinical practice, and serves as a key liaison between staff and leadership. Functions as a proficient clinician and is responsible and accountable for all elements of the nursing process when providing or overseeing direct patient care.</p><h3>Major Duties</h3><p>Major Duties of the Registered Nurse - Assistant Nurse Manager (To include but not limited to): Serving as the first line supervisor of nursing personnel in the patient care area ensuring the head nurse/NM retains VA Handbook 5007 requirements (examples may include but are not limited to supervising the nursing assistants and/or licensed practical/vocational nurses (LPN/LVNs) in the patient care area or supervising the nursing personnel on evening and/or night shift). Approving schedules and leave for employees under their direct supervision. Appraising performance, recommending performance standards, and recommending performance awards for employees under their direct supervision. Serving as hiring official during the recruitment process for employees under their direct supervision. Recommending proposed discipline or grievance adjustments for employees under their direct supervision. In addition, the Supervisory ANM is responsible for assisting the NM with personnel on the unit who they do not directly supervise; expectations may include but are not limited to: Drafting schedules and leave for final approval by the NM. Providing input into the performance of employees with the final evaluation completed by the NM. Assisting with making recommendations for selection of candidates for employment. Applying clinical knowledge/judgment to lead staff involvement in planning, decision making, and evaluating outcomes; providing feedback to the NM who ultimately ensures nursing personnel provide timely nursing care that complies with generally accepted standards of practice. Overseeing work assignments and providing reports of contact or assisting with fact findings as needed to provide the NM with the information necessary to make recommendations for counseling and/or disciplinary actions. Relocation/Recruitment Incentives: Not Authorized Permanent Change of Station (PCS): Not Authorized</p><h3>Requirements</h3>U.S. Citizenship; non-citizens may only be appointed when it is not possible to recruit qualified citizens in accordance with VA Policy. All applicants tentatively selected for VA employment in a testing designated position are subject to urinalysis to screen for illegal drug use prior to appointment. Must pass pre-employment physical examination. Participation in the seasonal influenza vaccination program is a requirement for all Department of Veterans Affairs Health Care Personnel (HCP).
