ABOUT THIS ROLE

The Registered Nurse - Assistant Nurse Manager (ANM) for Mental/Behavioral Health (MHBH) demonstrates leadership that is broad enough to improve the care for a group of patients. In collaboration with the Nurse Manager, the ANM is responsible for documented outcomes at the program or service level. The program or outcomes must demonstrate a coordinated group of activities that impacts the patients and/or employees.

Major Duties

CTVHCS is in the process of making a cultural change, shifting from a disease-focused approach to a health and wellbeing approach, in order to implement the Whole Health System of Care. This is a VA-wide initiative to provide a comprehensive and systematic approach to improve healthcare delivery at all stages of Veteran care. This entails moving from an episodic, "siloed" approach to an interdisciplinary, holistic approach, emphasizing self-care in the larger context of well-being. All staff in this facility will be part of this process, shifting the focus from the question, "What's the matter with you?" to the question, "What matters to you, and how can we help you live your best life?" This strategy also involves integrating a full range of conventional approaches with Complementary and Integrative Health (CIH) approaches in order to optimize lifelong health and well-being, as defined by the Veteran, rather than narrowly focusing on disease management. As the Registered Nurse - Assistant Nurse Manager, you will demonstrate a progressive ability to fulfill responsibilities that reflect leadership, sound judgment, and innovative approaches in managing complex patient care. You will be responsible for assigning work to staff based on established priorities, the complexity of tasks, and the capabilities of team members. Exhibiting professional and effective communication skills with all staff members. Enforcing facility policies and procedures. Participating in the coordination of nursing staff training and assessing both personal and staff educational needs. Collaborating with employees and the Nurse Manager throughout the evaluation process. Collecting data for quarterly reports on process improvement initiatives and program evaluations (e.g., wound care, infection control, patient complaints, medication errors, equipment monitoring) and presenting findings as needed. Ensuring medical records are accurate, current, and complete by reviewing nursing documentation to verify that entries reflect the care provided and that all physician orders are carried out. Initiating and/or participating in interdisciplinary team activities when appropriate.
