<p>The Registered Nurse in the Ambulatory Care Specialty Procedure Clinics at the Washington DC VA Medical Center provides direct patient care focused on health promotion, disease prevention, and supportive treatment. As a novice nurse, the incumbent practices under close supervision, progressively applying nursing theory, critical thinking, and clinical judgment in real patient care situations.</p><h3>Major Duties</h3><p>The Registered Nurse in the Ambulatory Care Specialty Procedure Clinics provides safe, evidence-based nursing care under close supervision while developing foundational clinical skills and professional judgment. Major duties include, but are not limited to: Delivering direct patient care using the nursing process, including assessment, planning, implementation, and evaluation of patient responses. Providing health promotion, disease prevention, and patient education, including counseling individuals and families to support improved health outcomes. Administering medications and treatments as prescribed by authorized providers and ensuring timely, accurate documentation. Participating in interdisciplinary care planning, collaborating with providers, technicians, and other members of the healthcare team to support coordinated, high-quality care. Managing assigned patient workload, organizing and prioritizing tasks efficiently while seeking guidance as needed. Ensuring patient safety and compliance with regulatory and accreditation standards, including infection control, environmental safety, and emergency preparedness procedures. Engaging in customer service practices that promote patient satisfaction, professionalism, and effective communication with Veterans, families, and staff. Providing age-appropriate and culturally sensitive care, demonstrating understanding of the physical, emotional, and developmental needs of diverse Veteran populations. Protecting patient privacy and maintaining data security in accordance with the Privacy Act, VA policies, and information security guidelines. Participating in performance improvement activities, applying evidence-based practice concepts, and contributing to unit-level quality initiatives. Completing required education, training, competencies, and Basic Life Support (BLS) certification, and actively engaging in professional development. Supporting ongoing accreditation readiness, adhering to Joint Commission, OIG, CARF, and VA standards for documentation, safety, and clinical practice. Assisting in orientation and competency validation for staff as appropriate to the setting. Maintaining flexibility for scheduling in a 24/7 facility and performing additional duties as assigned to support patient care. All applicants tentatively selected for VA employment in a testing designated position are subject to urinalysis to screen for illegal drug use prior to appointment. Applicants who refuse to be tested will be denied employment with VA. Selective Service Registration is required for males born after 12/31/1959. Subject to background/security investigation.
