<p>The Nurse Manager for Acute Care at the James A. Haley Veterans' Hospital & Clinics is a frontline leader responsible for 24/7 oversight of assigned inpatient units. This role ensures the delivery of high-quality, Veteran-centered care through strong clinical and administrative leadership. The Nurse Manager promotes evidence-based practice, maintains a culture of safety and accountability, and supports staff engagement and development</p><h3>Major Duties</h3><p>The Nurse Manager for Acute Care at the James A. Haley Veterans' Hospital & Clinics is a frontline supervisory leader responsible for 24/7 oversight of assigned inpatient units, ensuring high-quality, Veteran-centered care. The Nurse Manager provides clinical and administrative leadership, drives evidence-based practice, and fosters a culture of safety, engagement, and accountability. This role requires strong communication, team-building skills, and the ability to collaborate across interdisciplinary teams to achieve optimal Veteran outcomes. Responsibilities include staff oversight, resource allocation, performance management, and participation in organizational initiatives to support nursing excellence. Major duties include, but are not limited to: - Provides leadership, supervision, and 24/7 oversight for assigned Acute Care units including ICU, Progressive Care, STAT Team, Inpatient Case Management, Med-Surg Units, and Centralized Telemetry, with authority for both clinical and administrative operations. - Coordinates and evaluates patient care delivery using the full nursing process, ensuring high-quality, age-appropriate, Veteran-centered care. - Oversees staffing, develops schedules, validates data, and participates in staffing methodology processes. - Leads recruitment efforts, conducts interviews, and selects qualified candidates in coordination with the Nurse Recruiter. - Provides orientation, training, and ongoing competency development for staff; evaluates performance through proficiencies and appraisals. - Supports and drives evidence-based practice, quality improvement, and nurse-sensitive indicator performance, including data collection, analysis, trending, and reporting.- Ensures compliance with all accreditation and regulatory standards and maintains continual survey readiness. - Collaborates with interdisciplinary teams to remove barriers, enhance care processes, and implement innovative programs that improve Veteran outcomes. - Promotes an inclusive, culturally competent, and psychologically safe work environment aligned with organizational values, ethics, and EEO principles. - Participates in shared governance councils, organizational strategic planning, and the development of care delivery models. - Serves as a role model and servant leader, maintaining open communication with staff, peers, and union partners; conducts regular staff meetings with union invitations. - May provide cross-coverage within Acute Care and may be required to travel between hospital and clinic sites as needed.
