<p>This position is located in the Mental Health Residential Rehabilitation Treatment Program (RRTP) located at the VA Southern Oregon Healthcare System, White City VA Medical Center, White City OR.</p><h3>Major Duties</h3><p>The full performance level of this vacancy is GS-6. The actual grade at which an applicant may be selected for this vacancy is in the range of 3 to 6. Duties of this position include but are not limited to the following: Provides ongoing, continuous practical nursing care to RRTP Veterans with a range of mental health and substance use disorders and co-morbid medical conditions, using the nursing process (assessment, planning, implementation, and evaluation) to support individualized treatment and rehabilitation goals. Uses judgment to prioritize and carry out assigned patient care based on the Veteran's condition, selecting and sequencing procedures and treatments appropriately, and accurately recognizing, reporting, and documenting relevant clinical findings that may require intervention or revision of the care plan. Observes, identifies, and responds to Veterans' needs for care, including medication administration, equipment-assisted care, and patient/family education, incorporating emotional, cultural, spiritual, socioeconomic, and age-related factors into the organization and delivery of care. Prepares, administers, and documents prescribed medications (oral, topical, subcutaneous, intramuscular, and, when authorized by policy, intravenous) and treatments in accordance with established policies and procedures, monitoring for and promptly reporting physical and/or emotional changes in the Veteran's condition. Recognizes urgent and emergent patient care situations, immediately seeks assistance from the RN and/or MD/DO, and initiates appropriate emergency interventions (including basic life support and assistance with resuscitation) as directed. Establishes constructive, therapeutic relationships with Veterans and their families, using knowledge of human behavior, motivations, and reactions to promote effective communication, socialization skills, and engagement in treatment, while fostering respect for privacy and dignity in all aspects of care. Demonstrates effective customer service skills in all interactions with Veterans, families/representatives, visitors, and staff, and consistently incorporates established customer service standards into practice. Performs support duties for complex diagnostic tests and/or specialized procedures relevant to RRTP practice, including preparing the Veteran, assisting during the examination or procedure, handling specialized instruments or equipment, and monitoring the Veteran's condition before, during, and after the procedure. Serves as a preceptor and resource for less experienced LPNs/LVNs and Nursing Assistants/Health Technicians, participating in their orientation, education, and training in practical nursing procedures and support duties for more complex and specialized tests/procedures. Functions as an accountable member of the interprofessional health care team, collaborating with others to promote and maintain health, prevent disease and disability, care for and rehabilitate Veterans experiencing altered health states, and contribute to quality of life throughout the course of illness and recovery. Practices within the limits of licensure, educational preparation, and validated competencies; upholds legal, ethical, and moral responsibilities of nursing practice; and takes appropriate action when observing unprofessional conduct by peers or other health care providers. Work Schedule: (3) 12hr shifts (0530-1800), (1) 8hr shift (0530-1400), with rotating weekends (PST) (To be discussed with Hiring manager during interview process).
