Based on assignment and grade, duties may include but are not limited to: Administers and records medications and treatments. Determines need, contra-indications, allergies, and identifying and recording reactions/interactions; Recognizes the pharmacological implications of medication administration for various age groups. Demonstrates knowledge of the nursing process in administering patient care by: Collection of data and observing to determine patient needs; Plans and carries out a developed plan of care; Evaluate and adjust plan of care to meet patient needs. Recognizes and quickly assesses emergency situations and makes appropriate and timely interventions. Performs procedures accurately, completely, and safely according to Practice and Policy. Functions as a member of the multidisciplinary team. Performs nursing care associated with treatment of wounds facilitating healing and prevention of infection. Charts according to VAMC guidelines and documents observation and nursing care administered with patient response on progress notes. Reports pertinent information to appropriate personnel during the course of the day. Receives, discusses, and communicates patient information upon transfer or change of tour of duty. Establishes constructive relationships with individual patients to elicit feelings and attitudes. Promotes working relationships based upon communication. Communicates effectively and establishes positive relationships with patients. Conducts self with professional demeanor and courteous behavior. Organizes care for the selected patients and/or group of patients by: Evaluates the overall assignment and setting priorities for each patient. Monitors the status of each patient throughout tour of duty. Resets priorities according to changes in patient's condition. Assesses client needs which may impact care. Demonstrates initiative, self-direction, and good judgment by: Ability to plan and organize with little assistance. Uses good judgment in selecting appropriate application of procedures and guidelines. Seeks learning opportunities to improve. Performs additional duties as assigned. Work Schedule: Full-Time, Monday - Friday, Hours TBD. No weekends or holidays. Pay: Competitive salary and regular salary increases. When setting pay, a higher step rate of the appropriate grade may be determined after consideration of higher or unique qualifications or special needs of the VA (Above Minimum Rate of the Grade). Paid Time Off: 37-50 days of annual paid time offer per year (13-26 days of annual leave, 13 days of sick leave, 11 paid Federal holidays per year) Selected applicants may qualify for credit toward annual leave accrual, based on prior work experience or military service experience. Parental Leave: After 12 months of employment, up to 12 weeks of paid parental leave in connection with the birth, adoption, or foster care placement of a child. Child Care Subsidy: After 60 days of employment, full time employees with a total family income below $144,000 may be eligible for a childcare subsidy up to 25% of total eligible childcare costs for eligible children up to the monthly maximum of $416.66. Retirement: Traditional federal pension (5 years vesting) and federal 401K with up to 5% in contributions by VA Insurance: Federal health/vision/dental/term life/long-term care (many federal insurance programs can be carried into retirement) Telework: Not Available Virtual: This is not a virtual position.
