<p>The Licensed Practical Nurse/Licensed Vocational Nurse (LPN/LVN), GS-7 performs more complexnursing assignments within their setting. The LPN/LVN possesses comprehensive practical nursingknowledge and skills in specialized procedures and practices. The LPN/LVN GS-7 role is ofconsiderable difficulty and responsibility is performed under general supervision. This is accomplished through but not limited to modalities such as ambulation, bowel and bladder training, dressing, grooming, bathing, oral hygiene, range of motion exercises and fall prevention modalities.The work is performed in the Endoscopy suites and in most patient care areas of the hospital. The individual will be working with some patients with potentially communicable disease: work is performed in an environment where x-rays are utilized as an adjunct to diagnostic procedures and chemicals are used for sterilizing instruments. However, risks are minimal with usual precautionary measures. Incumbents will be required to work rotating on call hours including nights, holidays and weekends. The LPN has assignments above the level of a GS-6 and completes specialized patient care duty assignments in a more complex patient care setting which demand an exceptional degree of Practical Nursing knowledge, skills, and self-direction. Positions at this grade level require broader knowledge and skills as supervision is more general and LPN"s are expected to be involved in a greater degree in the development and modification of treatment plans. Demonstrates ability to vary the order/sequence of assigned procedures based on the knowledge of the patient's condition. Assumes responsibility for a designated unit in accordance with Joint Commission (JC) standards and recommendations, with a Registered Nurse (RN) ultimately responsible. Assists with travel and /or housing arrangements for appointments and surgical procedures. Communicates with patients directly as well as telephonically regarding pre/post-operative, pre/post admission, pre/post procedure instructions, status, and care, stresses the importance of follow-up care and appointments, no-shows, travel arrangements, etc. and documents encounters in the Medical Record. Assumes responsibility for developing/contributing to performance improvement plans, data collection and interpretation. Reports monthly progress, trends and initiatives to the Nurse Manager. Orients/Mentors employees to the clinical area. Assists in the supervision of day-to-day operations in selected specialized clinical areas with guidance and supervision from charge nurse and nurse manager. Supervises/Mentor GS-6 and below LPN's include nursing assistants and Health Technicians. Preferred Experience: 1-2 years experience in a procedural area. Critical thinking skills. 6 to 12 months of direct endoscopy or GI Lab experiences. Paid Time Off: 37-50 days of annual paid time offer per year (13-26 days of annual leave, 13 days of sick leave, 11 paid Federal holidays per year) Selected applicants may qualify for credit toward annual leave accrual, based on prior [work experience] or military service experience.
