<p>About the Position: This position is with Tripler Army Medical Center (TAMC) in the Directorate of Medicine Department of Medicine Sleep Laboratory in Honolulu, Hawaii. This is an open continuous announcement. We accept applications on an ongoing basis; qualified applicants will be considered as vacancies become available. Medical malpractice liability insurance is not required for federal civilian healthcare providers. Federal Tort Claims Act (28 U.S.C. § 1346(b)).</p><h3>Major Duties</h3><p>Physician is the recognized subject matter expert in all matters related to sleep medicine.</p><p>Integrate newly published scientific research on sleep, interpret published professional guidelines and educate other providers.</p><p>Develop policies and guidelines for the program with regards to sleep evaluation.</p><p>Given the latitude to work within and interpret guidelines as sees fit for the betterment of the program and its patients.</p><p>Responsible for the examination, diagnosis and treatment of the full range of outpatients seen in the clinic.</p><p>Diagnose multiple chronic conditions and a wide range of sleep and breathing disorders and diseases, complicated diagnoses and treatments.</p><p>Manage assigned cases that often have overlapping complex conditions that involve complicated diagnostic and testing procedures.</p><p>Order and evaluate the full range of tests to include polysomnography, actigraphy, sleep diaries, unattended sleep studies, appropriate radiographic, pulmonary function testing and laboratory testing when indicated.</p><p>Supervise, teach and provide consultation to other health care providers (nurse practitioners, physician’s assistants, medical students, interns, residents, and fellows).</p><p>Incumbent has direct contact with staff members in order to plan and coordinate the provision of sleep medicine in the program as well as to resolve operational issues.</p><p>Provide expert advice not only to providers within the program but to the Commanding General on sleep health concerns in senior leaders and the impact of that on a wide range of healthcare concerns.</p><p>Serve as the primary Sleep Medicine Physician. Board Certified or possession of a Certificate of Added Qualifications in Sleep Medicine preferred.</p><h3>Education</h3>FOREIGN EDUCATION: If you are using education completed in foreign colleges or universities to meet the qualification requirements, you must show the education credentials have been evaluated by a private organization that specializes in interpretation of foreign education programs and such education has been deemed equivalent to that gained in an accredited U.S. education program; or full credit has been given for the courses at a U.S. accredited college or university. Only degrees from an accredited college or university recognized by the Department of Education are acceptable to meet positive education requirements or to substitute education for experience.
