<p>The Rocky Mountain Regional VA Medical Center is recruiting for one (1) Physician- Sleep Medicine. Incumbent will be a member of the Medical Service and will participate in patient care, teaching and administrative activities as assigned. They will function as an independent physician provider, and they will provide medical care in the spectrum of their field of training and privileging and in all aspects of patient care including inpatient/outpatient care.</p><h3>Major Duties</h3><p>DUTIES Incumbent will work as an independent physician provider in the Pulmonary/Critical Care/Sleep Section within the Medicine Service line. They will provide medical care in the spectrum of their field of board eligible/board certified expertise in all aspects of patient care including outpatient care, and if desired, inpatient care. The Rocky Mountain Regional Medical Center is a major teaching affiliate of the University of Colorado School of Medicine and an interest in teaching trainees in sleep medicine is strongly preferred. The incumbent will be a member of Pulmonary/Critical Care Section/Medical Service and will participate in patient care, teaching, research, quality improvement, and administrative activities of the Division, as assigned. The incumbent will be responsible for, but not limited to the following duties: Provide expert consultation and treatment to patients in areas of personal expertise in the outpatient sleep and/or pulmonary clinics. If interested, opportunities on pulmonary consults as well as the Intensive Care Unit may also be available. Triage and evaluate consultations for inpatient and outpatient pulmonary and sleep specialty. Obtain medical histories, conduct physical examinations, order, and evaluate appropriate laboratory testing, and plan and prescribe treatment for patients. Interpret sleep studies including Polysomnography, home sleep tests, PAP titrations, MSLT, and other sleep testing Participate in teaching the in-training sleep fellows and staff the Trainee clinic. Coordinate medical management and care within their discipline with Primary Care providers and other Medical/Surgical services and personnel in a multidisciplinary health care delivery system. If inpatient service is desired, the incumbent will provide on-call services for the section as assigned. Shares after hour call responsibilities with section physicians in rotation Participate in monitoring the quality, safety, and appropriateness of patient care, both at the Section and facility level. Perform administrative tasks as assigned, including, but not limited to peer reviews, Ongoing Professional Practice Evaluations (OPPE), special projects that help fulfill and/or enhance the mission of the Department of Veterans Affairs as assigned by the Chief of Medicine/Chief of Staff/ELT Participate in the educational programs for section personnel as well as the medical staff. Complete all application requirements detailed in the "Required Documents" section of this announcement.<h3>Education</h3>Degree of Doctor of Medicine or an equivalent degree resulting from a course of education in allopathic medicine or osteopathic medicine. The degree must have been obtained from an institution whose accreditation was in place for the year in which the course of study was completed. Approved schools are: Schools of medicine accredited by the Liaison Committee on Medical Education (LCME) for the year in which the degree was granted, OR Schools of osteopathic medicine approved by the Commission on Osteopathic College Accreditation of the American Osteopathic Association for the year in which the degree was granted. For foreign medical graduates not covered in (1) or (2) above, facility officials must verify with the Educational Commission for Foreign Medical Graduates (ECFMG) that the applicant has met requirements for certification, and must obtain a copy of the ECFMG certificate, if claimed by the applicant. [If the applicant does not claim an ECFMG certificate, facility officials must still confirm that the medical school meets (or met) ECFMG eligibility requirements for the year the candidate graduated.] NOTE: The Under Secretary of Health or designee in the VHA Central Office may approve the appointment under authority of 38 U.S.C. 7405 of a physician graduate of a school of medicine not covered above if the candidate is to be assigned to a research, academic, or administrative position with no patient care responsibilities. The appointment will be made only in exceptional circumstances where the candidate's credentials clearly demonstrate high professional attainment or expertise in the specialty area.
