ABOUT THIS ROLE
<p>The James J. Peters VA Medical Center is seeking a Board Certified Physician in the Geriatric Research, Education and Clinical Center (GRECC) Program. James J Peters VAMC is a large, complex, diversified university-affiliated general medical and surgical teaching facility. The incumbent will be the Associate Director for Education and Evaluation (AD/EE) in the GRECC Program.</p><h3>Major Duties</h3><p>The Associate Director for Education and Evaluation (AD/EE) in the GRECC Program reports directly to the GRECC Director. The GRECC is an interdisciplinary center of excellence with a three-part mission: (1) conduction of geriatrics and gerontology research; (2) development, implementation, evaluation, and dissemination of models of clinical services that enhance care and improve health outcomes for older Veterans; (3) education and development of current and future geriatrics and gerontology investigators, educators, clinicians, and leaders The provider adheres to the primary mission of the GRECC education activities by applying new knowledge and ideas, evaluating their effectiveness in patient care settings, and demonstrating their practicality for implementation across the VA system. The incumbent collaborates with the VA medical facility Designated Education Officer and profession-specific VA Program Director/Site Director for purposes of providing GRECC-related clinical training to health professional trainees. As AD/EE, the incumbent will conduct, but is not limited to, these duties: Manages administrative programs/functions to include annual reporting submission requirements and Geriatrics and Gerontology Advisory Committee (GGAC) site visit support. Oversees the GRECC clinical geriatrics training programs, including the clinical fellowship program, the resident and medical student rotations, and the allied health trainees. Develops, teaches, evaluates, and disseminates geriatrics-focused clinical educational programs to multidisciplinary VA staff and medical and allied health trainees that increase knowledge and change behavior to improve the quality of geriatric care. Directs, advances, teaches, assesses, and disseminates educational programs on aging research methods for early-career VA investigators, with the goal of expanding their expertise and improving the precision and impact of their research. Secures VA and non-VA research funding and develops the infrastructure to support JJPVAMC GRECC educational programs. Develops, secures support for, conducts, and publishes geriatrics and gerontology education-related and other geriatrics and gerontology research. Leads and collaborates on other local, regional, and national geriatrics and gerontology education and program development and evaluation. Identify and develop support mechanisms to underwrite GRECC educational programs, collaborating with the Associate Director for Clinical (AD/C) in instituting and conducting evaluation strategies targeting clinical demonstration projects. All applicants tentatively selected for VA employment in a testing designated position are subject to urinalysis to screen for illegal drug use prior to appointment. Applicants who refuse to be tested will be denied employment with VA. Selective Service Registration is required for males born after 12/31/1959. Must be proficient in written and spoken English. Must pass pre-employment physical examination. Participation in the seasonal influenza vaccination program is a requirement for all Department of Veterans Affairs Health Care Personnel (HCP). Complete all application requirements detailed in the "Required Documents" section of this announcement.<h3>Education</h3>Degree of Doctor of Medicine or an equivalent degree resulting from a course of education in allopathic medicine or osteopathic medicine. The degree must have been obtained from an institution whose accreditation was in place for the year in which the course of study was completed. Approved schools are: Schools of medicine accredited by the Liaison Committee on Medical Education (LCME) for the year in which the degree was granted. Schools of osteopathic medicine approved by the Commission on Osteopathic College Accreditation (COCA) for the year in which the degree was granted. For foreign medical graduates not covered in (1) or (2) above, confirmation must be made that the medical school meets (or met) Educational Commission for Foreign Medical Graduates (ECFMG) eligibility requirement for year graduated. NOTE: The Under Secretary of Health or designee in the VHA Central Office may approve the appointment under authority of 38 U.S.C. 7405 of a physician graduate of a school of medicine not covered above if the candidate is to be assigned to a research, academic, or administrative position with no patient care responsibilities. The appointment will be made only in exceptional circumstances where the candidate's credentials clearly demonstrate high professional attainment or expertise in the specialty area.
