<p>The Ann Arbor VA Healthcare System is seeking a Full-time Cardiothoracic Anesthesiologist in the Anesthesiology Perioperative and Pain Medicine Service with specific duties to provide care to those in the operating room. This position is necessary to provide specialized clinical Anesthesiology services for surgical patients and those undergoing other diagnostic and therapeutic non-operative procedures.</p><h3>Major Duties</h3><p>Ann Arbor VA Healthcare System seeks an fellowship trained Cardiothoracic anesthesiologist to join an expanding clinical practice. The Ann Arbor VA Healthcare System provides cutting-edge surgical and procedural care to veterans ranging from common outpatient procedures to complex cardiovascular, thoracic, general surgical, ENT, urologic, orthopedic, plastic and reconstructive, vascular, and gynecologic surgery. The position requires training/experience in the management of acute perioperative pain; training/experience managing difficult airways utilizing advanced airway management techniques; experience supervising/teaching residents, fellows and medical students; and training/credentials sufficient to support eligibility for an academic appointment with the University of Michigan. Physician meets continuing medical education requirements, participates in activities to improve anesthesia-related outcomes and efficiencies including regular participation in morbidity and mortality conferences, staff meetings, and resident mock oral examinations. Duties include the provision of clinical anesthesia services in directing/supervising CRNAs or residents in an Anesthesia Care Team Model Workweek is Monday through Friday with evening, night, weekend and holiday call shared equally with staff anesthesiologists. Work outside the VA must be vetted and approved by University of Michigan Department of Anesthesiology Chairman. Work Schedule: Full time Physicians are expected to complete a 40-hour work week and be on call 24 hours a day, 7 days a week. Call schedule and shifts subject to change</p><h3>Requirements</h3>U.S. Citizenship; non-citizens may only be appointed when it is not possible to recruit qualified citizens in accordance with VA Policy. Must pass pre-employment physical examination. Participation in the seasonal influenza vaccination program is a requirement for all Department of Veterans Affairs Health Care Personnel (HCP). Complete all application requirements detailed in the "Required Documents" section of this announcement.<h3>Education</h3>Degree of Doctor of Medicine or an equivalent degree resulting from a course of education in allopathic medicine or osteopathic medicine. The degree must have been obtained from an institution whose accreditation was in place for the year in which the course of study was completed. Approved schools are: Schools of medicine accredited by the Liaison Committee on Medical Education (LCME) for the year in which the degree was granted. Schools of osteopathic medicine approved by the Commission on Osteopathic College Accreditation (COCA) for the year in which the degree was granted. For foreign medical graduates not covered in (1) or (2) above, confirmation must be made that the medical school meets (or met) Educational Commission for Foreign Medical Graduates (ECFMG) eligibility requirement for year graduated. NOTE: The Under Secretary of Health or designee in the VHA Central Office may approve the appointment under authority of 38 U.S.C. 7405 of a physician graduate of a school of medicine not covered above if the candidate is to be assigned to a research, academic, or administrative position with no patient care responsibilities. The appointment will be made only in exceptional circumstances where the candidate's credentials clearly demonstrate high professional attainment or expertise in the specialty area.
