Eligible applications received after that date will be referred at regular intervals or as additional vacancies occur on an as-needed basis until positions are filled.</p><h3>Major Duties</h3><p>The Joseph Maxwell Cleland Atlanta VA Medical Center is recruiting for a Full-Time Physician for Radiation Oncology within Diagnostic Imaging Service. The Radiation Oncology Section in Diagnostic Imaging Service is a part of a large, complex, VA Medical Center with consults and referrals from VISN Medical Centers and outpatient clinics. Provides direct clinical and administrative oversight for mid-level practitioners, physics, dosimetry, radiation therapists and other clinical staff as assigned. Responsible for providing services in an efficient, high-quality, cost effective manner within budget allocation. Works directly with Chief, Radiation Oncology Service to assist in ensuring adequate and appropriate staffing. Participates in recruitment, hiring, evaluation and disciplinary actions for staff. Works with the Chief, Radiation Oncology Service, and other staff as appropriate, supports operations issues/problems resolution in a logical, stepwise fashion. Participates in a forum in which staff identifies, communicates, and resolves issues related to Radiation Oncology Service, Medical Center ancillary and support operations, and VISN-wide mandates. Works with the Chief, Radiation Oncology Service, and other disciplines as necessary to support, contribute to and implement policies, procedures, performance goals, strategic plans, and initiatives. Seeks and enhances opportunities to promote and strengthen the Medical Center's and VISN goals. Responsible for implementing the goal of improving care for patients within the Medical Center and VISN. Contributes to the development, maintenance, and enhancement of relations with internal and external entities including but not limited to medical and nursing schools, therapist training programs, local public and private health care entities, colleagues in other Patient Services and Integrated Services such as Information Technology, Laboratory, and Business Office, labor, and VISN. Participates in Radiation Oncology Service strategic planning. Participates in local administrative, management, quality assurance, and other assignments, meetings, or committees. Provides direct patient care as a consultant in outpatient clinics and/or inpatient wards and will participate in the Radiation Oncology Service on call schedule. Participates in regular peer review activities. Must be alert to patient's condition and disorders. Reactions on the part of the patient require immediate attention so harm does not come to the patient. Maintains patient records and files. Follows HIPPA guidelines regarding patient information. Ensures timely completion of daily clinic notes with accurate documentation and coding of service rendered. Practices radiation safety to reduce exposure to patients, staff, and self, in compliance with department and VA radiation safety procedures to maintain occupational exposures "as low as reasonably achievable" (ALARA). Work Schedule: Monday - Friday, 8:00 a.m. - 4:30 p.m. Subject to Change based on Agency Needs.</p><h3>Requirements</h3>U.S. Citizenship; non-citizens may only be appointed when it is not possible to recruit qualified citizens in accordance with VA Policy. Complete all application requirements detailed in the "Required Documents" section of this announcement.<h3>Education</h3>Degree of Doctor of Medicine or an equivalent degree resulting from a course of education in allopathic medicine or osteopathic medicine. The degree must have been obtained from an institution whose accreditation was in place for the year in which the course of study was completed. Approved schools are: Schools of medicine accredited by the Liaison Committee on Medical Education (LCME) for the year in which the degree was granted. Schools of osteopathic medicine approved by the Commission on Osteopathic College Accreditation (COCA) for the year in which the degree was granted. For foreign medical graduates not covered in (1) or (2) above, confirmation must be made that the medical school meets (or met) Educational Commission for Foreign Medical Graduates (ECFMG) eligibility requirement for year graduated. NOTE: The Under Secretary of Health or designee in the VHA Central Office may approve the appointment under authority of 38 U.S.C. 7405 of a physician graduate of a school of medicine not covered above if the candidate is to be assigned to a research, academic, or administrative position with no patient care responsibilities. The appointment will be made only in exceptional circumstances where the candidate's credentials clearly demonstrate high professional attainment or expertise in the specialty area.
