Ideal applicants will have outpatient experience and be board certified/board eligible. Successful candidates will be encouraged to seek faculty appointments with our academic affiliate, the Department of Psychiatry at the University of California, San Diego. Duties would include, but are not limited to: Provide comprehensive psychiatric medical care (assessment, consultation, treatment) primarily in an outpatient setting, for a broad range of clinical problems. Evaluation and treatment of Veterans in the outpatient setting. The psychiatrist must be skilled in psychotherapy, psychopharmacology, integrative mental health modalities, and will provide therapeutic interventions including diagnostic assessments, medication evaluation and management, suicide risk assessments, crisis intervention, and overall care of patients with psychiatric disorders. Ensures practice of psychiatric medicine is consistent with TJC, CARF, HIPAA, VA policies and procedures, clinical practice guidelines, national statutes and regulations, medical record documentation, and mandatory continuing education. Participates effectively in team meetings and treatment planning conferences and collaborates with multidisciplinary team members that enhances coordination of comprehensive patient care. Deliver care in a variety of modalities to include in-person and virtual care. As-needed coverage of other psychiatrists within unit when colleagues are on leave. Participation in Psychiatry call schedule (typically 1 week per year). Typical work hours are Monday to Friday 8:00A -4:30P. Alternative work hours, if desired, should be agreed upon at the time of joining. Each full time provider is required to work a minimum of 80 hours per pay period (every two weeks) unless on leave status. Provides appropriate clinical documentation for all contacts with or about Veterans. Documents patient care in the patient medical record via the Computerized Patient Record System. Training regarding the use of the Computerized Patient Record System will be provided by the VAMC. All Documentation shall be completed in accordance with VA policy and procedures. Adheres to all quality management performance measures. The psychiatrist will complete clinical reminders, encounters, and clinical pertinence reviews as directed. Participates in performance improvement activities, physician peer review, committees as assigned, and other duties as assigned. VASDHS provides a full range of patient care services including inpatient and outpatient care, with state-of-the-art technology as well as education and research. VASDHS is a teaching hospital system offering many opportunities for teaching, mentoring, and supervising medical students, residents, fellows. Additionally, opportunities exist to be involved with interprofessional training of psychology and pharmacy trainees. VASDHS serves one of the nation's largest veteran populations and provides care at seven facilities, including the main medical center and outpatient locations in Kearney Mesa, Oceanside, Sorrento Valley, Escondido, Chula Vista, and El Centro. Work Schedule: Monday - Friday, 8am - 4:30pm</p><h3>Requirements</h3>U.S. Citizenship; non-citizens may only be appointed when it is not possible to recruit qualified citizens in accordance with VA Policy. Complete all application requirements detailed in the "Required Documents" section of this announcement.<h3>Education</h3>Degree of Doctor of Medicine or an equivalent degree resulting from a course of education in allopathic medicine or osteopathic medicine. The degree must have been obtained from an institution whose accreditation was in place for the year in which the course of study was completed. Approved schools are: Schools of medicine accredited by the Liaison Committee on Medical Education (LCME) for the year in which the degree was granted. Schools of osteopathic medicine approved by the Commission on Osteopathic College Accreditation (COCA) for the year in which the degree was granted. For foreign medical graduates not covered in (1) or (2) above, confirmation must be made that the medical school meets (or met) Educational Commission for Foreign Medical Graduates (ECFMG) eligibility requirement for year graduated. NOTE: The Under Secretary of Health or designee in the VHA Central Office may approve the appointment under authority of 38 U.S.C. 7405 of a physician graduate of a school of medicine not covered above if the candidate is to be assigned to a research, academic, or administrative position with no patient care responsibilities. The appointment will be made only in exceptional circumstances where the candidate's credentials clearly demonstrate high professional attainment or expertise in the specialty area.
