You must meet specific eligibility requirements per VHA policy and submit your EDRP application within four months of appointment.</p><h3>Major Duties</h3><p>The VA New York Harbor Healthcare System (NYHHCS) is a multi-site medical system that includes a major medical facility in Manhattan, Brooklyn, St. Albans campus in Queens, and two Community Based Outpatient Clinics (CBOCs). VA NYHHCS is an academic facility with teaching and research programs. This position is located in the Mental Health (MH) Service of VA NY Harbor at the Manhattan or Brooklyn Campus. This position is primarily located in the ambulatory care program of the Mental Health Service. GENERAL DESCRIPTION OF ASSIGNEED DUTIES: Provides psychiatric care to a panel of outpatients in the MH clinic. This includes the following activities: Conduct psychiatric assessment and evaluation on new patients Provides ongoing medication management for patients in the providers panel Meaningfully participates in multi-disciplinary team meetings General duties: Responsible for adherence and completion of all applicable Joint Commission requirements for the program. Follows community standards for accepted clinical practice, and also practices in accordance with Clinical Practice Guidelines and evidence-based practices Compliance with all relevant components of the facilities suicide prevention program Follows facility requirements for high quality and timely documentation and closure of encounters. The overall scope is responsibility for ambulatory treatment in the MH clinic at the NY and/or BK campuses. Additional responsibilities include those generic to members of the psychiatry attending staff in the MH Service at the Manhattan or Brooklyn campus: Completion of peer reviews when requested Coverage in the ED during WHEN hours in the absence of a moonlighter, as assigned. All applicants tentatively selected for VA employment in a testing designated position are subject to urinalysis to screen for illegal drug use prior to appointment. Complete all application requirements detailed in the "Required Documents" section of this announcement.<h3>Education</h3>Degree of Doctor of Medicine or an equivalent degree resulting from a course of education in allopathic medicine or osteopathic medicine. The degree must have been obtained from an institution whose accreditation was in place for the year in which the course of study was completed. Approved schools are: Schools of medicine accredited by the Liaison Committee on Medical Education (LCME) for the year in which the degree was granted. Schools of osteopathic medicine approved by the Commission on Osteopathic College Accreditation (COCA) for the year in which the degree was granted. For foreign medical graduates not covered in (1) or (2) above, confirmation must be made that the medical school meets (or met) Educational Commission for Foreign Medical Graduates (ECFMG) eligibility requirement for year graduated. NOTE: The Under Secretary of Health or designee in the VHA Central Office may approve the appointment under authority of 38 U.S.C. 7405 of a physician graduate of a school of medicine not covered above if the candidate is to be assigned to a research, academic, or administrative position with no patient care responsibilities. The appointment will be made only in exceptional circumstances where the candidate's credentials clearly demonstrate high professional attainment or expertise in the specialty area.
