<p>This position is eligible for: Education Debt Reduction Program (Student Loan Repayment) Recruitment Incentive (Sign-on Bonus) Contract Buy Out Program</p><h3>Major Duties</h3><p>https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=iV_-GjjarRE Perform surgical pathology gross, microscopic, and final diagnosis along with coding of surgical pathology reports in rotation with other pathologists. Surgical pathology receives biopsies, small specimens, skin specimens, and complex resection cases from a diverse range of specialties, with emphasis in GI and pancreatobiliary, genitourinary/renal, lung, and ENT cases. Grossing is performed by grossing technicians. Sign out of dermatopathology cases is performed by dermatopathologists. Autopsies are performed at an outside institution. Provide intraoperative consultation to surgical services. Perform rapid onsite evaluation for CT guided and US guided fine needle aspiration biopsies; provide diagnoses on gynecologic and non-gynecologic cytology specimens.- Participate in prospective peer review and retrospective review of 10% cases when needed. Perform review and interpretation of serum and urine protein electrophoresis. Perform review and interpretation of peripheral blood smears and body fluids.- Additional responsibilities may include oversight of a section of the laboratory, providing clinical consultation services and oversight of the QA/QI of the department. Participate on hospital/departmental committees and hospital/departmental conferences as needed.- Ensure compliance with federal statutes, VA directive and policies, College of American Pathologists accreditation standards, and New Employee Orientation standards. Supervision of pathology trainees in surgical pathology and clinical pathology. Teach rotating medical students, pathology residents, and clinical fellows and laboratory technical staff as needed. Provide consultation to the Medical Center and laboratory staff in matters of test utilizations, technical and result interpretation. VA offers a comprehensive total rewards package. Contract Buy Out Program: This position may be eligible for the Physician / Provider Contract Buy Out Program, which authorizes VHA to buy out service contracts (Locum agreements, loan repayments, sign-on bonus contracts, Physician-owned practices) in exchange for employment at certain rural or highly rural facilities for a period of obligated service (minimum 4 years). Complete all application requirements detailed in the "Required Documents" section of this announcement.<h3>Education</h3>Degree of Doctor of Medicine or an equivalent degree resulting from a course of education in allopathic medicine or osteopathic medicine. The degree must have been obtained from an institution whose accreditation was in place for the year in which the course of study was completed. Approved schools are: Schools of medicine accredited by the Liaison Committee on Medical Education (LCME) for the year in which the degree was granted. Schools of osteopathic medicine approved by the Commission on Osteopathic College Accreditation (COCA) for the year in which the degree was granted. For foreign medical graduates not covered in (1) or (2) above, confirmation must be made that the medical school meets (or met) Educational Commission for Foreign Medical Graduates (ECFMG) eligibility requirement for year graduated. NOTE: The Under Secretary of Health or designee in the VHA Central Office may approve the appointment under authority of 38 U.S.C. 7405 of a physician graduate of a school of medicine not covered above if the candidate is to be assigned to a research, academic, or administrative position with no patient care responsibilities. The appointment will be made only in exceptional circumstances where the candidate's credentials clearly demonstrate high professional attainment or expertise in the specialty area.
