<p>This position is eligible for the Education Debt Reduction Program (EDRP), a student loan payment reimbursement program. You must meet specific eligibility requirements per VHA policy and submit your EDRP application within four months of appointment. Program Approval, award amount (up to $200,000) & eligibility period (one to five years) are determined by the VHA Education Loan Repayment Services program office after review of the EDRP application. Former EDRP participants ineligible to apply.</p><h3>Major Duties</h3><p>This is an open continuous announcement. Applications will be accepted on an ongoing basis and qualified candidates will be considered as vacancies become available. Applications will remain on file until September 30, 2026. Clinical Provides a mix of consultative and follow-up patient care to Veterans in the evaluation and medical management of chronic pain conditions. Facilitates delivery of appropriate patient care in collaboration with other health professionals, medical center staff, and management. Completes medical diagnostic evaluation and initial assessment of patients including but not limited to collecting a focused history, performing necessary physical examinations, and ordering, interpreting, and integrating the results of pertinent lab investigations. Develops and implements treatment plans to include opioid and non-opioid pain management, appropriate testing, and non-invasive pain modalities. Responsible for ensuring that adequate access to care is available for both newly consulted and returning patients in outpatient clinics. Participates in the inpatient Pain Management consult service. Provides emergency consultative services and call coverage on a rotating schedule. Conducts interventional pain management procedures on both an inpatient and outpatient basis, including but not limited to cervical, thoracic, or lumbar epidural steroid injections; cervical or lumbar facet/nerve block/medium branch blocks; sacroiliac joint injections; Pulsed Radiofrequency; lumbar or thoracic para-vertebral sympathetic blocks; trigger point and piriformis injections; stellate ganglion blocks; occipital nerve blocks; Botox injections; trigeminal nerve blocks, illioinguinal or genitofemoral nerve blocks; and spinal cord stimulator implantation, follow-up, and maintenance. Engages in discussions of treatment plans with patients, family members, or other involved parties as appropriate, maintaining Consolidated Omnibus Budget Reconciliation Act (COBRA) and Health Insurance Portability and Accountability Act (HIPAA) guidelines. Participates in peer and medical record reviews, as needed. Exhibits leadership in suggesting and instituting changes in patient care programs based on current concepts and findings. Keeps informed of developments in the management and treatment of diseases and illness through continuing medical education, both formal and informal. Coordinates patient care with additional consultants, including resources external to the VAMC, as appropriate. Supports the safety, occupational health, and fire protection program by the application of approved standards, regulations, practices, and work methods. All applicants tentatively selected for VA employment in a testing designated position are subject to urinalysis to screen for illegal drug use prior to appointment. Applicants who refuse to be tested will be denied employment with VA. Selective Service Registration is required for males born after 12/31/1959. Must be proficient in written and spoken English. Must pass pre-employment physical examination. Participation in the seasonal influenza vaccination program is a requirement for all Department of Veterans Affairs Health Care Personnel (HCP). As a condition of employment for accepting this position, you will be required to serve a 1-year probationary period or 2-year probationary period during which we will evaluate your fitness and whether your continued employment advances the public interest. Upon completion of your probationary period, your employment will be terminated unless you receive certification, in writing, that your continued employment advances the public interest.<h3>Education</h3>Degree of Doctor of Medicine or an equivalent degree resulting from a course of education in allopathic medicine or osteopathic medicine. The degree must have been obtained from an institution whose accreditation was in place for the year in which the course of study was completed. Approved schools are: Schools of medicine accredited by the Liaison Committee on Medical Education (LCME) for the year in which the degree was granted. Schools of osteopathic medicine approved by the Commission on Osteopathic College Accreditation (COCA) for the year in which the degree was granted. For foreign medical graduates not covered in (1) or (2) above, confirmation must be made that the medical school meets (or met) Educational Commission for Foreign Medical Graduates (ECFMG) eligibility requirement for year graduated. NOTE: The Under Secretary of Health or designee in the VHA Central Office may approve the appointment under authority of 38 U.S.C. 7405 of a physician graduate of a school of medicine not covered above if the candidate is to be assigned to a research, academic, or administrative position with no patient care responsibilities. The appointment will be made only in exceptional circumstances where the candidate's credentials clearly demonstrate high professional attainment or expertise in the specialty area.
