<p>Seeking MEDICAL or SURGICAL Comprehensive Ophthalmologist, SURGICAL Glaucoma Specialist, or MEDICAL Retina Specialists for this Full-time VA position within Northern California VA Eye Section. You must meet specific eligibility requirements per VHA policy and submit your EDRP application within four months of appointment.</p><h3>Major Duties</h3><p>This is an OPEN CONTINUOUS ANNOUNCEMENT and will remain open until July 13th, 2026. The initial cut-off date for referral of eligible applications will be May 18th, with subsequent cut-off dates every 5 days. Eligible applications received after that date will be accepted on an ongoing basis and qualified candidates will be considered as vacancies become available. As a Comprehensive Ophthalmologist you will manage eye conditions including cataract, glaucoma, age-related macular degeneration, and diabetic retinopathy. Treatments include, but are not limited to: cataract surgery, diabetic retinopathy laser therapy, glaucoma topical/laser treatment +/- MIGS Implants, and macular degeneration injections. Administrative duties are general oversight of the operations of the Ophthalmology Clinic including but not limited to provide providing efficient patient management, supervision of Ophthalmology residents and other administrative activity. Physician is expected to maintain Joint Commission readiness. The Stockton VA Eye Clinic is a brand new site with state of the art equipment and fully staffed team of 4 Eye Techs, 2 Optometrists, 2 Part-Time Ophthalmologists, 1 Eye RN, and 1 Eye LVN. The Stockton VA patient population has a lot of pathology and has been underserved for many years until the activation of Stockton VA site in 2025. There is an on site Optical Shop, Pharmacy, and Primary Care. There is no Urgent Care or Emergency Department at Stockton VA, but the Eye Clinic does accept urgent eye patients. Stockton VA is part of the NorCal VA Health Care System, which has a total of 6 Eye Clinics. The Stockton VA is the 3rd largest site. Eye Surgery is performed at a local Private Surgery Center, in Tracy CA. Clinical Duties: Provide direct patient care to include, but are not limited to: history and physicals, medication management, evaluation of diagnostic tests and treatment planning, surgery, and clinical reminder completion as applicable. Administrative Duties: Document all medical information in an electronic medical record. Participate in Process Improvement/Quality Assurance projects and participate in bi-annual Medical Staff activity including committee participation. General oversight of the operations of the Ophthalmology Clinic including but not limited to provide providing efficient patient management Supervision of Ophthalmology residents Perform medication reconciliation. Education Duties: Instructing and educating Ophthalmology residents.</p><h3>Requirements</h3>U.S. Citizenship; non-citizens may only be appointed when it is not possible to recruit qualified citizens in accordance with VA Policy. All applicants tentatively selected for VA employment in a testing designated position are subject to urinalysis to screen for illegal drug use prior to appointment. Applicants who refuse to be tested will be denied employment with VA. Selective Service Registration is required for males born after 12/31/1959. Must be proficient in written and spoken English. Must pass pre-employment physical examination. Participation in the seasonal influenza vaccination program is a requirement for all Department of Veterans Affairs Health Care Personnel (HCP). Complete all application requirements detailed in the "Required Documents" section of this announcement.<h3>Education</h3>Degree of Doctor of Medicine or an equivalent degree resulting from a course of education in allopathic medicine or osteopathic medicine. The degree must have been obtained from an institution whose accreditation was in place for the year in which the course of study was completed. Approved schools are: Schools of medicine accredited by the Liaison Committee on Medical Education (LCME) for the year in which the degree was granted. Schools of osteopathic medicine approved by the Commission on Osteopathic College Accreditation (COCA) for the year in which the degree was granted. For foreign medical graduates not covered in (1) or (2) above, confirmation must be made that the medical school meets (or met) Educational Commission for Foreign Medical Graduates (ECFMG) eligibility requirement for year graduated. NOTE: The Under Secretary of Health or designee in the VHA Central Office may approve the appointment under authority of 38 U.S.C. 7405 of a physician graduate of a school of medicine not covered above if the candidate is to be assigned to a research, academic, or administrative position with no patient care responsibilities. The appointment will be made only in exceptional circumstances where the candidate's credentials clearly demonstrate high professional attainment or expertise in the specialty area.
