<p>The Cincinnati, OH VA Medical Center is seeking a Physician to work as Gastroenterologist at our facility. The primary role is to provide clinical care in Gastroenterology and to oversee the educations of Residents, Fellows, and Medical Students. The 2-page Resume requirement does not apply to this occupational series. For more information, refer to Required Documents below.</p><h3>Major Duties</h3><p>Gastroenterologist's primary role is to provide clinical care in Gastroenterology and Inflammatory Bowel Diseases and to oversee the educations of Residents, Fellows, and Medical Students within his/her practice area. Assigned duties and responsibilities include but are not limited to: Serves as acting chief of the section (if appropriate), as needed. Provides guidance and support to the nurse practitioners assigned to Medical Service in their respective areas of expertise. Provides guidance and supervision for the medical students and residents (interns, residents, and/or fellows) assigned to General Medicine House Service/subspecialty services and clinics according to facility standards when assigned to do so by the Chief, Medical Service. Participates in the formal education of the residents, fellows and medical students by presenting teaching rounds, lectures, conferences, etc. Participates in grading sessions for medical students and GME trainees assigned to their services. Demonstrates and trains medical students/resident, fellows in medical procedures that are required to provide optimal patient care appropriate to their expertise. Revises work schedules and assignments to meet frequent, abrupt, and unpredictable changes in prescribed workloads and deadlines to meet patient care, healthcare, agency needs. Participates in various facility programs designed to enhance and improve the delivery of patient care services, such as Continuous Quality Improvement (CQI) teams, as assigned by Section Chief and or Chief of Medical Service. Demonstrates commitment to high quality customer service, including specific measures identified as performance goals by the Medical Center. Adheres to all information security and privacy measures set by VHA and the Medical Center. Has approved clinical privileges in the areas of his/her expertise and in all areas required to carry out the duties of his/her assignments/responsibilities within Medical Services. Maintains required mandatory training for privileges. Facilitate the delivery of appropriate patient care in collaboration with other health professionals, medical center staff, and management. Participates as a peer reviewer process when requested. Systematically evaluates patient care programs in all Medicine venues. Consistently demonstrates expertise in diagnosing and treating seriously ill, multi-symptomatic patients when clinical assignments so dictate. Completes all medical record documentation, encounters and trainee supervision attestations in the electronic medical record within prescribed timeframes. Plans implements, and evaluates care based on age specific requirements of the patient. Assesses veterans by utilizing advanced clinical judgement and physical assessment skills. All applicants tentatively selected for VA employment in a testing designated position are subject to urinalysis to screen for illegal drug use prior to appointment. Applicants who refuse to be tested will be denied employment with VA. Selective Service Registration is required for males born after 12/31/1959. Must be proficient in written and spoken English. Effective May 7, 2025, driver's licenses or state-issued identification cards that are not REAL ID compliant cannot be utilized as an acceptable form of identification for employment. Must pass pre-employment physical examination. Participation in the seasonal influenza vaccination program is a requirement for all Department of Veterans Affairs Health Care Personnel (HCP). You may be required to serve a probationary period. Complete all application requirements detailed in the "Required Documents" section of this announcement.<h3>Education</h3>Degree of Doctor of Medicine or an equivalent degree resulting from a course of education in allopathic medicine or osteopathic medicine. The degree must have been obtained from an institution whose accreditation was in place for the year in which the course of study was completed. Approved schools are: Schools of medicine accredited by the Liaison Committee on Medical Education (LCME) for the year in which the degree was granted. Schools of osteopathic medicine approved by the Commission on Osteopathic College Accreditation (COCA) for the year in which the degree was granted. For foreign medical graduates not covered in (1) or (2) above, confirmation must be made that the medical school meets (or met) Educational Commission for Foreign Medical Graduates (ECFMG) eligibility requirement for year graduated. NOTE: The Under Secretary of Health or designee in the VHA Central Office may approve the appointment under authority of 38 U.S.C. 7405 of a physician graduate of a school of medicine not covered above if the candidate is to be assigned to a research, academic, or administrative position with no patient care responsibilities. The appointment will be made only in exceptional circumstances where the candidate's credentials clearly demonstrate high professional attainment or expertise in the specialty area.
