<p>This position is eligible for the Education Debt Reduction Program (EDRP), a student loan payment reimbursement program. You must meet specific eligibility requirements per VHA policy and submit your EDRP application within four months of appointment. Program Approval, award amount (up to $200,000) & eligibility period (one to five years) are determined by the VHA Education Loan Repayment Services program office after review of the EDRP application. Former EDRP participants ineligible to apply.</p><h3>Major Duties</h3><p>This is an OPEN CONTINOUS ANNOUNCMENT and will remain open until July 13th 2026. The initial cut-off date for referral of eligible applications will be May 19th 2026, with subsequent cut-off dates every 2 weeks. Eligible applications received after that date will be accepted on an ongoing basis and qualified candidates will be considered as vacancies become available. Contact V21CCOEEDRP@va.gov, the EDRP Coordinator for questions/assistance Work Schedule: Sunday - Saturday, variable shifts to equal 40 hours a week, compressed schedule Pay: Competitive salary, annual performance bonus, regular salary increases Paid Time Off: 50-55 days of paid time off per year (26 days of annual leave, 13 days of sick leave, 11 paid Federal holidays per year and possible 5 day paid absence for CME) Retirement: Traditional federal pension (5 years vesting) and federal 401K with up to 5% in contributions by VA Insurance: Federal health/vision/dental/term life/long-term care (many federal insurance programs can be carried into retirement) Licensure: 1 full and unrestricted license from any US State or territory CME: Possible $1,000 per year reimbursement (must be full-time with board certification) Malpractice: Free liability protection with tail coverage provided Contract: No Physician Employment Contract and no significant restriction on moonlighting Provider is an Emergency Medicine trained physician or Family Practice or Internal Medicine trained physician with significant Emergency Medicine experience. Provider will provide both clinical and administrative Emergency Medicine services at the NorCal VAHCS. Provider is expected to document into CPRS in a timely manner, keep their TMS learning plan up to date and attend the monthly ED provider meetings. Provider is expected to oversee the rotating residents and students and utilize EDIS for tracking of ED flow. The Emergency Medicine Physician will provide independent care delivery for chronic, acute/same day medical needs. The type of care is served to the Veteran population, with diseases consistent with those seen in the general population namely diabetes, hypertension, hyperlipidemia, chronic obstructive pulmonary disease, mental health disorders, etc. A part of your responsibility is to write orders for diagnostic testing, prescribe medications, consult with specialty service, and utilize computerized/electronic medical records. Direct supervisor is Chief of Emergency Medicine. The major duties and responsibilities include, but are not limited to: Health Risk Assessment, goal setting for prevention, and chronic diseases management. A major focus is in preventive medicine with focus on the achievement of positive outcomes for patients, improve coordination of care, decrease clinic waits or delays, and appropriate use of resources. Provide direct patient care to include, but is not limited to: history and physicals, medication management, evaluation of diagnostic tests and treatment planning, clinical reminder completion as applicable. Function as a leader in the PACT approach in the delivery of care, which emphasizes a team-based approach to healthcare. Document all medical information in an electronic medical record. Perform medication reconciliation. Keep TMS training and ACLS (or equivalent), Moderate Sedation and Airway training up to date Meets the needs of customers while supporting VA missions. Consistently communicates and treats customers (veterans, their representatives, visitors and all VA staff) in a courteous, tactful and respectful manner. Provides the customer with consistent information according to established policies and procedures. Handles conflict and problems in dealing with the customer constructively and appropriately. Possesses knowledge of age-related changes in disease, pharmacology and in the general care and management of elderly patients and applies this knowledge in assigned patient care and education responsibilities. Environment of Care: Follows Life Safety Management (fire protection) procedures. Reports safety hazards, accidents, and injuries. Review hazardous materials/Material Safety Data Sheets (MSDS)/waste management. Follows Emergency Preparedness plan. Follows security policies/procedures. Complies with federal, state and local environmental and other requirements preventing pollution, minimizing waste, and conserves cultural and natural resources. Infection Control: Demonstrates infection control practices for disease prevention (i.e. hand washing, universal precautions/isolation procedures, including TB, COVID-19 and other infectious disease requirements/precautions.) Other duties as assigned.</p><h3>Requirements</h3>U.S. Citizenship; non-citizens may only be appointed when it is not possible to recruit qualified citizens in accordance with VA Policy. All applicants tentatively selected for VA employment in a testing designated position are subject to urinalysis to screen for illegal drug use prior to appointment. Must pass pre-employment physical examination. Participation in the seasonal influenza vaccination program is a requirement for all Department of Veterans Affairs Health Care Personnel (HCP). You may be required to serve a probationary period. Complete all application requirements detailed in the "Required Documents" section of this announcement.<h3>Education</h3>Degree of Doctor of Medicine or an equivalent degree resulting from a course of education in allopathic medicine or osteopathic medicine. The degree must have been obtained from an institution whose accreditation was in place for the year in which the course of study was completed. Approved schools are: Schools of medicine accredited by the Liaison Committee on Medical Education (LCME) for the year in which the degree was granted. Schools of osteopathic medicine approved by the Commission on Osteopathic College Accreditation (COCA) for the year in which the degree was granted. For foreign medical graduates not covered in (1) or (2) above, confirmation must be made that the medical school meets (or met) Educational Commission for Foreign Medical Graduates (ECFMG) eligibility requirement for year graduated. NOTE: The Under Secretary of Health or designee in the VHA Central Office may approve the appointment under authority of 38 U.S.C. 7405 of a physician graduate of a school of medicine not covered above if the candidate is to be assigned to a research, academic, or administrative position with no patient care responsibilities. The appointment will be made only in exceptional circumstances where the candidate's credentials clearly demonstrate high professional attainment or expertise in the specialty area.
