<p>This position is eligible for the Education Debt Reduction Program (EDRP), a student loan payment reimbursement program. Contact VHAVISN04HREDRP@va.gov Pay: Competitive salary, annual performance bonus, regular salary increases Paid Time Off: 50-55 days of paid time off per year (26 days of annual leave, 13 days of sick leave, 11 paid Federal holidays per year and possible 5 day paid absence for CME) Retirement: Traditional federal pension (5 years vesting) and federal 401K with up to 5% in contributions by VA Insurance: Federal health/vision/dental/term life/long-term care (many federal insurance programs can be carried into retirement) Licensure: 1 full and unrestricted license from any US State or territory CME: Possible $1,000 per year reimbursement (must be full-time with board certification) Malpractice: Free liability protection with tail coverage provided Contract: No Physician Employment Contract and no significant restriction on moonlighting Work Schedule: Typical tour of duty is expected to be Monday - Friday , 8:00am - 4:30pm; however, other tours including nights/weekends may be necessary should Veteran needs arise. Clinical Duties: Direct Patient Care: Assess, diagnose, and treat veterans suffering from sub-acute and chronic pain conditions. Develop and implement individualized pain management plans for referred patients from Primary Care and Specialty Services. Interdisciplinary Collaboration: Work collaboratively with other healthcare providers, including primary care physicians, mental health professionals, physical therapists, and pharmacists, to provide comprehensive care. Patient Education: Educate patients and their families about chronic pain management strategies, including medication use, physical therapy, and lifestyle modifications. Including the Stepped care model focusing on wellness and self management. Medication Management: Monitor and manage the usage of pain relief medications, including opioids, to ensure appropriate use and reduce the risk of dependency and side effects. Ensure prescribing with use of the state prescription monitoring system. Engage in the Opioid Safety Initiative at the facility level. Optional Procedural Interventions: Evaluate for, perform and supervise office based minor interventional procedures such as nerve blocks, trigger point injections, and other minor surgical interventions. Review referrals for radiofrequency ablative treatments, epidural and intrathecal medication management, infusion pump management and refills as appropriate, joint injections, etc. Administrative Duties: Program Development: Develop and implement clinic policies, procedures, and protocols to ensure high standards of care and compliance with VA guidelines. Collaborate with facility Pain Management Opioid Safety Prescription Drug Monitoring Program Coordinator. Quality Assurance: Oversee quality improvement initiatives, including monitoring patient outcomes, conducting audits, and implementing corrective actions when necessary. Resource Management: Manage clinic resources, including staffing, budgets, and equipment, to optimize clinic operations and patient care. Reporting and Documentation: Maintain accurate and detailed patient records and generate reports as required for VA administration and compliance. Compliance: Ensure that the clinic adheres to all relevant laws, regulations, and VA policies regarding healthcare delivery. Leadership Duties: Staff Supervision and Mentorship: Supervise and support a multidisciplinary team of healthcare providers, including physicians, nurse practitioners, physician assistants and chiropractors. Training and Development: Provide ongoing education and training opportunities for clinic staff to ensure they are up-to-date with the latest pain management practices and technologies Performance Evaluation: Conduct performance evaluations for the above mentioned clinic staff and provide constructive feedback and professional development opportunities Strategic Planning: Participate in strategic planning for the clinic and broader healthcare system initiatives within the VA, including identifying areas for growth and improvement Educational Duties: Publications and Research: May engage in clinical research related to chronic pain management and contribute to peer-reviewed journals and other scholarly publications as sanctioned by the facility research department Teaching: Provide education and training for VA staff as well as medical students, residents, and fellows rotating through the pain clinic. Participate in conferences, seminars, and workshops to share knowledge and expertise Community Outreach: Engage with veterans and the wider community to raise awareness about chronic pain management and available services within the VA</p><h3>Requirements</h3>U.S. Citizenship; non-citizens may only be appointed when it is not possible to recruit qualified citizens in accordance with VA Policy. All applicants tentatively selected for VA employment in a testing designated position are subject to urinalysis to screen for illegal drug use prior to appointment. Applicants who refuse to be tested will be denied employment with VA. Selective Service Registration is required for males born after 12/31/1959. Must be proficient in written and spoken English. Must pass pre-employment physical examination. Participation in the seasonal influenza vaccination program is a requirement for all Department of Veterans Affairs Health Care Personnel (HCP). Complete all application requirements detailed in the "Required Documents" section of this announcement.<h3>Education</h3>Degree of Doctor of Medicine or an equivalent degree resulting from a course of education in allopathic medicine or osteopathic medicine. The degree must have been obtained from an institution whose accreditation was in place for the year in which the course of study was completed. Approved schools are: Schools of medicine accredited by the Liaison Committee on Medical Education (LCME) for the year in which the degree was granted. Schools of osteopathic medicine approved by the Commission on Osteopathic College Accreditation (COCA) for the year in which the degree was granted. For foreign medical graduates not covered in (1) or (2) above, confirmation must be made that the medical school meets (or met) Educational Commission for Foreign Medical Graduates (ECFMG) eligibility requirement for year graduated. NOTE: The Under Secretary of Health or designee in the VHA Central Office may approve the appointment under authority of 38 U.S.C. 7405 of a physician graduate of a school of medicine not covered above if the candidate is to be assigned to a research, academic, or administrative position with no patient care responsibilities. The appointment will be made only in exceptional circumstances where the candidate's credentials clearly demonstrate high professional attainment or expertise in the specialty area.
