<p>This position is eligible for the Education Debt Reduction Program (EDRP), a student loan payment reimbursement program. Former EDRP participants ineligible to apply.</p><h3>Major Duties</h3><p>The Southern Arizona VA Health Care System (SAVAHCS) is seeking a full time Cardiothoracic Radiologist, for the Radiology Service. We are looking for someone that has completed a Diagnostic Radiology residency and has significant experience with Cardiothoracic Imaging or has recently completed a fellowship in Cardiothoracic Imaging, who can also interpret radiographs and perform fluoroscopic exams. These include clinical and administrative management, and include but are not limited to the following: Examinations - Uses assessment skills to promptly interpret radiological examinations using appropriate clinical, laboratory and other pertinent data. Provides follow-up when indicated. Diagnosis - Perform and/or interpret studies utilizing PACS and voice recognition systems. Accurately interprets and evaluates radiological data for the purpose of determining radiologic diagnosis and its potential impact on clinical status. The physician is expected to communicate directly with ordering providers on all critical findings. Corrects diagnosis when necessary. Therapeutic Ability - Initiates appropriate and timely interpretation and therapeutic intervention. Recognizes changes in behavior, symptoms, sign, and other pertinent facts about the patient during and after the performance of radiology examinations and has the ability to modify a protocol or plan of treatment when indicated. Recognizes own capabilities and limitations. Patient Management - Maintains confidentiality of patients and relatives through competence and interpersonal skills. Acts as a consultant in involving patients in the treatment and management plan. Consultations and Specialty Skills - Acts as a consultant for the Radiology Section in developing, implementing, and evaluating diagnosis and treatment of patients. Demonstrates the ability to recognize the need for consultation to other facility specialty areas. Record keeping - Promptly and completely reports Radiologic findings and changes in patient status during and about the time of an exam or procedure. Maintains clear, accurate, and current clinical records. Completes medical records in a timely manner per hospital regulations. Other responsibilities include: Shared call and weekend coverage; resident and technologist education; review of pre-procedure labs and protocolling of radiology studies; participation in peer review process; quality management activities such as peer review, study/film quality; participation in SAVAHCS committees such as the multidisciplinary tumor board. Work Schedule: Monday - Friday, 8:00 am - 4:30 pm. with shared call and weekend coverage</p><h3>Requirements</h3>U.S. Citizenship; non-citizens may only be appointed when it is not possible to recruit qualified citizens in accordance with VA Policy. Complete all application requirements detailed in the "Required Documents" section of this announcement.<h3>Education</h3>Degree of Doctor of Medicine or an equivalent degree resulting from a course of education in allopathic medicine or osteopathic medicine. The degree must have been obtained from an institution whose accreditation was in place for the year in which the course of study was completed. Approved schools are: Schools of medicine accredited by the Liaison Committee on Medical Education (LCME) for the year in which the degree was granted. Schools of osteopathic medicine approved by the Commission on Osteopathic College Accreditation (COCA) for the year in which the degree was granted. For foreign medical graduates not covered in (1) or (2) above, confirmation must be made that the medical school meets (or met) Educational Commission for Foreign Medical Graduates (ECFMG) eligibility requirement for year graduated. NOTE: The Under Secretary of Health or designee in the VHA Central Office may approve the appointment under authority of 38 U.S.C. 7405 of a physician graduate of a school of medicine not covered above if the candidate is to be assigned to a research, academic, or administrative position with no patient care responsibilities. The appointment will be made only in exceptional circumstances where the candidate's credentials clearly demonstrate high professional attainment or expertise in the specialty area.
