ABOUT THIS ROLE
<p>The Associate Chief of Staff for Geriatrics and Extended Care (ACOS-GEC) reports directly to the Chief of Staff (COS) located primarily on our main campus in Chicago, Illinois and has a wide range of inpatient and outpatient clinical responsibilities encompassing the administration of medical care and treatment to Veterans in the Chicago and Northwest Indiana area. For more information, refer to Required Documents below.</p><h3>Major Duties</h3><p>The Associate Chief of Staff for Geriatrics and Extended Care (ACOS-GEC) oversees all matters related to the internal and external operations of the service ensuring that the network mission is met while operating in accordance with Department of Veterans Affairs (VA) policies and standards of Federal and accrediting agencies external to VA. The duties are both clinical and administrative in nature and involve the entire operation of the Geriatrics and Extended Care program - the Community Living Center (CLC), Home Based Primary Care (HBPC), Contract Adult Day Health Care (CADHC), Contract Community Nursing Home Program (CNH), GeriPACT, the Dementia Program, Home Hospice Program, and Homemaker/Home Health Aide Program (H/HHA). Incumbent will manage and direct major specialty treatment programs at this multidivisional facility. Incumbent must possess advanced practice skills and judgment demonstrating a high level of professional competency in managing assignments/projects of a broad scope, magnitude and complexity. In addition to Major Duties outlined herein, ACOS-GEC will have collateral assignments determined by the needs of the local facility. Work Schedule: Monday - Friday 8:00am - 4:30pm</p><h3>Requirements</h3>U.S. Citizenship; non-citizens may only be appointed when it is not possible to recruit qualified citizens in accordance with VA Policy. Complete all application requirements detailed in the "Required Documents" section of this announcement.<h3>Education</h3>Degree of Doctor of Medicine or an equivalent degree resulting from a course of education in allopathic medicine or osteopathic medicine. The degree must have been obtained from an institution whose accreditation was in place for the year in which the course of study was completed. Approved schools are: Schools of medicine accredited by the Liaison Committee on Medical Education (LCME) for the year in which the degree was granted. Schools of osteopathic medicine approved by the Commission on Osteopathic College Accreditation (COCA) for the year in which the degree was granted. For foreign medical graduates not covered in (1) or (2) above, confirmation must be made that the medical school meets (or met) Educational Commission for Foreign Medical Graduates (ECFMG) eligibility requirement for year graduated. NOTE: The Under Secretary of Health or designee in the VHA Central Office may approve the appointment under authority of 38 U.S.C. 7405 of a physician graduate of a school of medicine not covered above if the candidate is to be assigned to a research, academic, or administrative position with no patient care responsibilities. The appointment will be made only in exceptional circumstances where the candidate's credentials clearly demonstrate high professional attainment or expertise in the specialty area.
