Physician Assistant- Primary Care

<p>VA Salt Lake City Health Care System is recruiting for one (1) Primary Care Provider. This position may be filled with a physician assistant, a nurse practitioner, or a physician.</p><h3>Major Duties</h3><p>The PA will be fully qualified and certified to function in a clinical role and in accordance with the guidelines and policies of the VASLCHCS. This individual is delegated the authority and responsibility in their area of expertise to assume major clinical, consultative, educational, research, and administrative duties and assignments related to the examination of veterans seeking Primary Care at VASLCHCS. The Physician Assistant practices general medicine with a focus on community-based outpatient clinical care. The Physician Assistant independently follows his/her own panel of general medicine patients, functioning as their primary care provider. The primary care Physician Assistant provides total care of the patient's medical needs by performing history and physical exams, ordering appropriate lab tests, evaluating those tests, to ensure quality care of the patient. This will include providing preventative medicine services, managing chronic disease problems, and providing outpatient follow-up as needed. Clinical a. The PA practices general internal medicine with a focus on outpatient clinical care. Approximately 90% of the PA's time is dedicated to developing and maintaining an interdisciplinary approach to the direct care of general medicine clinic patients. b. The PA independently follows their own panel of general internal medicine patients, functioning as their primary care provider. This primary care/gatekeeper role is incumbent with a high degree of responsibility and independence. c. The PA's assessment skills and breadth of knowledge must be excellent. In addition, they must be a highly effective communicator in order to negotiate with consultants at the VAMC regarding the triaging of patients the refer. The PA must work closely with their colleagues and must serve as a leader in developing processes to improve care and satisfaction. Research If assigned research duties, the PA enrolls patients in active Ambulatory Care research protocols and completes follow-up visits with required studies.
