ABOUT THIS ROLE
<p>This Physician Assistant position is in the General Internal Medicine Service Line at the West Roxbury VA Medical Center, MA. This position is full time 40 hours per week.</p><h3>Major Duties</h3><p>VA Boston Healthcare System Medicine program has two services which are supported by Advanced Practice Practitioners (APPs). This includes five Inpatient Teaching Teams staffed by medical residents, a supervising attending and an embedded GIM APP. Our medical service also runs one non-resident team (the Direct Care team) staffed by APPs and an Attending Physician. Clinical responsibilities will be comprised of time on our Direct Care team providing first call for medicine inpatients in collaboration with an attending physician as well as rotations on our traditional resident-led teams. All incumbents will work on both teams, with time split equally between the two teams in a ratio of approximately 50/50 Direct Care/Teaching. The Teaching Team is a Monday through Friday Schedule, and the Direct Care Team has a shift-based tour of duty (weekday shifts will range between 8 and 12 hours / day, not to exceed 80 hours / two-week pay period; weekend and holiday shifts will be 12-hour shifts). Duties include, but are not limited to the following: Provides comprehensive inpatient medical care to adult veterans, including evaluation and management of acute, episodic, and chronic conditions Practices with appropriate clinical autonomy within granted privileges in collaboration with and supported by supervising internal medicine physician faculty. Serve as a primary provider on the Direct Care service and the General Internal Medicine/GIM Teaching services, managing daily patient care activities including admissions, ongoing management, care coordination, and discharge planning Coordinates and oversees inpatient care, coordinates timely communication, safe transitions of care Provides clinical guidance and continuity for Internal Medicine residents, medical students, and other trainees involved in patient care Lead and support resident teams in addressing all aspects of inpatient care, with a focus on patient safety, high value care, and adherence to evidence based practices Demonstrates accountability to established VA policies, procedures, and standards of care Utilizes advanced skills in assessment, diagnosis, clinical decision making, treatment planning and implementation of the patient's care plan Delivers patient centered care to a diverse veteran population (ages 18 through geriatric) incorporating medical, psychosocial, spiritual, and cultural considerations Collaborates with other members of the health care team to design and/or continuously improve the quality of care delivered to Veterans Work Schedule: Tour of Duty is based on team: (1) Direct Care Team: These include weekends and holidays; and (2) Resident-Led Team: - Monday - Friday do not work holidays, 7:00 am - 3:30 pm Telework: Not available.
