<p>This position is eligible for the Education Debt Reduction Program, a student loan payment reimbursement program. You must meet specific eligibility requirements per VHA policy and submit your EDRP application within four months of appointment. Program Approval, award amount (up to $200,000) & eligibility period (one to five years) are determined by the VHA Education Loan Repayment Services program office after review of the EDRP application. Former EDRP participants ineligible to apply.</p><h3>Major Duties</h3><p>Primary duties are to provide Primary Care services to a panel of patients as part of an interprofessional primary care team in the VHA Patient Aligned Care Team (PACT) model. The incumbent works as part of a primary care team and patient site care team members to provide primary care to Veterans The PA will be fully qualified and certified to function in a clinical role and in accordance with the guidelines and policies of the Southern Arizona VA Health Care System. This individual is delegated the authority and responsibility in his/her area of expertise to assume major clinical, consultative, educational, research, and administrative duties and assignments related to the examination of claimants filing compensation and pension claims. PA GAP provides essential coverage for primary care panels in the setting of planned and unplanned primary care provider absences. This includes same day, short term and long term panel assignments in the setting of panel PCP vacancies, extended leave, or PCP call outs. Major Duties of this position include, but are not limited to: Provides comprehensive care for Veterans for a panel size of approximately 900-1200 patients or same-day access. Perform initial histories and physical examination on outpatients Provide ongoing outpatient care for assigned patients Screen outpatients to determine the need for further care Prescribe medications within the defined scope of practice, including opioids if appropriate. Provide care to walk-in patients Order diagnostic studies such as laboratory tests, x-rays, electrocardiograms 8. Review need for and order health promotion and disease prevention measures Initiate, respond to and expedite request for consultations, special tests, and studies Provide education and counseling of patients and families in preventive care, medical conditions, and use of prescribed treatments and drugs. Serve as a preceptor for PA residents and students as requested. Review and manage all non-synchronous care needs for patients including communication of test results within VHA required timeframes, medication refills, patient calls, secure messages and other patient related communication from patient and clinical staff. Address home health orders and ECFaxes. The PA may sometimes need to work alone but can request assistance from other medical staff (including other primary care staff and staff in the Emergency Room or inpatient service at the nearest VA medical center when needed).
