<p>The Assistant Chief of Staff for Clinical Operations provides executive leadership, administrative oversight, and clinical guidance across all clinical programs within the Tennessee Valley Healthcare System. The Assistant Chief of Staff for Clinical Operations serves as a principal advisor to the Chief of Staff (COS) and Medical Center Director and is responsible for supporting the execution of the facility's strategic goals promoting operational excellence and enhancing Veteran-centered care.</p><h3>Major Duties</h3><p>VA offers a comprehensive total rewards package. Pay: Competitive salary, annual performance bonus, regular salary increases Paid Time Off: 50-55 days of paid time off per year (26 days of annual leave, 13 days of sick leave, 11 paid Federal holidays per year and possible 5 day paid absence for CME) Retirement: Traditional federal pension (5 years vesting) and federal 401K with up to 5% in contributions by VA Insurance: Federal health/vision/dental/term life/long-term care (many federal insurance programs can be carried into retirement) Licensure: 1 full and unrestricted license from any US State or territory CME: Possible $1,000 per year reimbursement (must be full-time with board certification) Malpractice: Free liability protection with tail coverage provided Contract: No Physician Employment Contract and no significant restriction on moonlighting Functions/Scope of Assigned Duties: As an Assistant Chief of Staff (ACOS) specializing in Clinical Operations, this position serves a pivotal role in bridging the gap between clinical practice and information technology. This role encompasses various functional areas, including the development and implementation of electronic health record (EHR) systems, optimizing clinical workflows, and ensuring the integrity and confidentiality of patient data. The Assistant Chief of Staff for Clinical Operations position is responsible for leveraging data analytics to enhance patient outcomes, guiding evidence-based decision-making, and streamlining patient care processes. Additionally, the role involves educating and training clinical staff on the effective use of operations tools, leading quality improvement. Clear and effective communication with clinical staff, administrators, and IT professionals to understand their needs, address concerns, and provide timely updates on operations-related initiatives and tools. Promptly responding to queries and issues related to electronic health records (EHR) and other operations systems, ensuring that problems are resolved efficiently to minimize disruption to clinical operations. Demonstrating an understanding of the challenges faced by healthcare providers, offering solutions that are both practical and considerate of their workflows and patient care responsibilities. Providing comprehensive training and support to ensure that clinical staff are proficient in using operations tools and systems, fostering a culture of continuous learning and improvement. Working collaboratively with multidisciplinary teams to integrate operations solutions that enhance patient care, streamline workflows, and support clinical decision making. Anticipating potential issues and implementing proactive measures to prevent them, while continuously seeking opportunities for improvement based on feedback from users. Maintaining a high level of professionalism in all interactions, respecting confidentiality and privacy, and upholding ethical standards in the management and use of health information technology. A facility Chief of Staff must serve on a full-time basis. The Chief of Staff develops and maintains currently accepted management practices throughout the clinical services. The Chief of Staff develops and presents the budgetary requirements of the clinical services and assists in the formulation of the annual budget program. The Chief of Staff is fully responsible to the Medical Center Director for programs of patient care and for the educational and research activities of the clinical services. To carry out these responsibilities, the Chief of Staff: Formulates and recommends plans for a comprehensive program of medical care, Develops the requirements of staff, facilities, and equipment and supplies needed to support an integrated program, utilizing necessary reviews and controls, and Appraises the effectiveness of the various medical programs in meeting the needs of patient care. Work Schedule: Will be discussed during interview</p><h3>Requirements</h3>U.S. Citizenship; non-citizens may only be appointed when it is not possible to recruit qualified citizens in accordance with VA Policy. All applicants tentatively selected for VA employment in a testing designated position are subject to urinalysis to screen for illegal drug use prior to appointment. Applicants who refuse to be tested will be denied employment with VA. Selective Service Registration is required for males born after 12/31/1959. Must be proficient in written and spoken English. Must pass pre-employment physical examination. Participation in the seasonal influenza vaccination program is a requirement for all Department of Veterans Affairs Health Care Personnel (HCP). Complete all application requirements detailed in the "Required Documents" section of this announcement.<h3>Education</h3>Degree of Doctor of Medicine or an equivalent degree resulting from a course of education in allopathic medicine or osteopathic medicine. The degree must have been obtained from an institution whose accreditation was in place for the year in which the course of study was completed. Approved schools are: Schools of medicine accredited by the Liaison Committee on Medical Education (LCME) for the year in which the degree was granted. Schools of osteopathic medicine approved by the Commission on Osteopathic College Accreditation (COCA) for the year in which the degree was granted. For foreign medical graduates not covered in (1) or (2) above, confirmation must be made that the medical school meets (or met) Educational Commission for Foreign Medical Graduates (ECFMG) eligibility requirement for year graduated. NOTE: The Under Secretary of Health or designee in the VHA Central Office may approve the appointment under authority of 38 U.S.C. 7405 of a physician graduate of a school of medicine not covered above if the candidate is to be assigned to a research, academic, or administrative position with no patient care responsibilities. The appointment will be made only in exceptional circumstances where the candidate's credentials clearly demonstrate high professional attainment or expertise in the specialty area.
