<p>The Physical Therapy Chronic Pain Management Specialist serves as a consultant, clinician, and subject matter expert for the treatment of patients in Chronic Pain Outpatient treatment and Inpatient Physical Therapy at VA Eastern Kansas Health Care System.</p><h3>Major Duties</h3><p>The Physical Therapy Chronic Pain Management Specialist, is a licensed, professional therapist who has specialty training and demonstrates advanced knowledge in evaluating, planning and implementing the treatment program for patients with various disabilities and medical conditions related to chronic pain management. The therapist functions as an independent care provider and will serve as the subject matter expert regarding physical therapy chronic pain within the health care team and their patient population. The therapist must have advanced knowledge and problem-solving skills to develop and modify the treatments and programming for a wide variety of disabilities and diagnoses related to chronic pain. The therapist will be expected to work independently applying best practice methodologies and will demonstrate effective communication and collaboration as part of a comprehensive chronic pain management team. The therapist will provide clinical services to address a vast array of problems that impact the health and function of a wide range of patients. Incumbent plans and carries out the full range of treatment where therapeutic objectives are complex, and procedures involved require the application of highly specialized skills and knowledge, particularly as related to PMOP/pain programming and/or chronic pain patients. Established treatment procedures are not always applicable and, at times, must be substantially adapted and applied with critical concern for patients who are acutely or chronically ill, or who have a combination of severe mental or physical disabilities with secondary complications. All applicants tentatively selected for VA employment in a testing designated position are subject to urinalysis to screen for illegal drug use prior to appointment.
