<p>The Pharmacy Supervisor is assigned to Pharmacy Service, at the El Paso VA Health Care System. The supervisor manages all assigned pharmacy operations, personnel and resources under the direction of the Chief of Pharmacy, Associate Chief of Pharmacy or designee. The supervisor plans and carries out the work, resolves most conflicts that arise, and coordinate the work with others, both inside and outside of Pharmacy Service.</p><h3>Major Duties</h3><p>The supervisor is responsible for the leadership and administrative management of the assigned services in pharmacy operation. The Pharmacy Service supports a wide variety of outpatient specialty medical programs such as various surgical specialties, nursing home, mental health discharge, migraine clinics, pain management clinic, and community-based outpatient clinics (CBOCs). Duties encompass oversight of pharmacy medication procurement, storage, and distribution, drug information services, patient education services, and participation in training of pharmacy students and residents in rotation learning opportunities. The facility supports national/regional/network programs and is fully affiliated with educational programs that include pharmacy students and a pharmacy residency. The supervisor will serve as a consultant for Pharmacy Service in evaluating health care delivery to patients. This includes facilitating the delivery of patient care in collaboration with other health professionals, health managers and other health care personnel. In this capacity, the supervisor operates with a broad delegation of authority to coordinate all aspects of the pharmacy service within their area of responsibility. In order to accomplish this, the incumbent will need management experience with pharmacy policy and procedures, and a broad knowledge base of the various phases of the full-spectrum pharmacy service. The supervisor will be responsible for ensuring the pharmacy is compliant with all regulatory and accrediting bodies, developing policies and procedures, developing functional statements, setting performance standards, evaluating performance, recommending appointments, recommending awards/advancements, recommending disciplinary action, counseling employees, and identifying training/educational requirements. The supervisor will be responsible for all day-to-day operations to ensure optimal pharmaceutical care and customer service through the assignment of duties, monitoring of performance, overseeing aggregate workload, identifying backlogs, and making staffing adjustments as needed to meet organizational goals. The incumbent will oversee/participate in activities that may include but are not limited to outpatient prescription processing/dispensing, managing controlled substance distribution and accountability, consultation/counseling, training/education, telehealth care, pharmacy inventory, supply management, time/attendance management/monitoring, and budgetary oversight. When setting pay, a higher step rate of the appropriate grade may be determined after consideration of existing pay, higher or unique qualifications, or special needs of the VA (Above Minimum Rate of the Grade). Paid Time Off: 37-50 days of annual paid time offer per year (13-26 days of annual leave, 13 days of sick leave, 11 paid Federal holidays per year). Selected applicants may qualify for credit toward annual leave accrual, based on prior work experience or military service experience. Parental Leave: After 12 months of employment, up to 12 weeks of paid parental leave in connection with the birth, adoption, or foster care placement of a child. Child Care Subsidy: After 60 days of employment, full time employees with a total family income below $144,000 may be eligible for a childcare subsidy up to 25% of total eligible childcare costs for eligible children up to the monthly maximum of $416.66. The Pharmacist must be a graduate of an Accreditation Council for Pharmacy Education (ACPE) accredited College or School of Pharmacy with a baccalaureate degree in pharmacy (BS Pharmacy) and/or a Doctor of Pharmacy (Pharm.D.) degree. OR Graduate of foreign pharmacy degree programs meet the educational requirement if the graduate is able to provide proof of achieving the Foreign Pharmacy Graduate Examination (DOCUMENTATION REQUIRED) NOTE: If your school has changed names, or is no longer in existence, you must provide this information in your application. Note: If your school was accredited by ACPE at the time of graduation, but is no longer listed on the ACPE website, you must provide documentation of accreditation with your application packet.
