ABOUT THIS ROLE
<p>The Pharmacy Supervisor (Inpatient) located in Pharmacy Service is fully responsible for the daily professional and administrative operation of inpatient pharmacy in the Jesse Brown VA Medical Center. The Inpatient Pharmacy Supervisor establishes controls and evaluates the effectiveness of personnel, equipment, ongoing pharmacy programs and collaborative processes and workgroups that pertain to inpatient pharmacy.</p><h3>Major Duties</h3><p>MAJOR DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES: CLINICAL FUNCTIONS: Identification of any drug induced problems that may be affecting the patient or contributing to the need for therapy. Recommendations to the attending and resident physicians for optimal management of drug-inducted problems either verbally and/or in writing. Provides clinical expertise and participates in adverse drug reporting and drug utilization. Educate patients and healthcare staff on the proper use and care of their medications through oral or written communications. DISTRIBUTIVE FUNCTIONS: Provide patient medication counseling on proper use and care of medications through a variety of communication methods if needed. Maintains familiarity with inpatient pharmacy operations and dispensing procedures to ensure proper understanding of workload implications. EDUCATION: Provides the environment and resources for the participation of pharmacy personnel in providing drug information to the hospital staff and other facilities as deemed responsible for maintaining his/her professional competency by keeping up with information on new drugs, new drug therapies, innovations in pharmacy practice, and to integrate this information into daily practice. Actively participates in the training of trainees and coordinates activity with the trainee directors and coordinators. ADMINISTRATIVE: Supervises and coordinates the daily work in and between the various areas of the Central Pharmacy and the inpatient satellites. Responsible for the professional, administrative management and supervision of all pharmacists, technicians, and other supportive personnel, in providing a safe, timely, efficient, and cost-effective medication dispensing system. Supervises, evaluates, and documents performance and counsels employees under his/her supervision. Assists in interviewing, evaluating, and selecting new employees according to current Federal laws and VA policies regarding EEO and veterans' preference. PROGRAM MANAGEMENT: Responsible for the overall operation and scope of pharmacy activities performed in the Central Inpatient Pharmacy, Extended Care Satellite, Unit Dose Satellite, Oncology Satellite, Psychiatric Satellites, and assures that the quality of services provided are of the highest standards. Assists in the gathering, coordinating, and reporting of data from various functional areas at the required time and assists in conducting and reporting internal audits as required. RESEARCH: Assists in the coordination of the medical research program and provides oversight of the custody, dispensing, and maintenance of INDs. Coordinates with staff to maintain records of receipt and dispensing, preparation, administration, and clinical monitoring. Performs all other duties as assigned. Work Schedule: Primary Shift: 07:00am - 3:30pm with potential for Various Shifts as needed: 9:00am - 5:30pm; 11:00am - 7:30pm; 12:00pm - 8:30pm; 3:00pm - 11:30pm; 11:00pm - 7:30am, Weekend and Holidays as Needed.
