<p>The Facility Pain Management, Opioid Safety, and the Prescription Drug Monitoring (PMOP) Coordinator is a licensed pharmacist with knowledge and proficiency in pharmacy practice and pharmacy administration. The incumbent functions at an advanced level of clinical practice as a clinical pharmacy practitioner for PMOP.</p><h3>Major Duties</h3><p>The duties of this position include the provision of clinical support to the facility PMOP Program. The Facility PMOP Coordinator works under the direction of pharmacy, mental health, and primary care leadership. The Facility PMOP Coordinator supports the Facility Pain Point of Contact (POC) in the coordination of pain management, opioid safety, and the prescription drug monitoring program (PDMP)-related initiatives and implementation of VHA and the Joint Commission standards. The PMOP coordinator works in close collaboration with the Pain POC, the Primary Care (PACT) Pain Champion, Academic Detailing pharmacists, the Pain Management Team/Pain Clinic leads and other facility stakeholders. The Facility PMOP Coordinator should have health care management experience, education, and/or training in pain management, opioid safety, and management of Opioid Use Disorder (OUD). They must have strong program evaluation and development expertise and administrative skills. The Facility PMOP Coordinator will receive programmatic and professional oversight from the VISN PMOP Coordinator and National PMOP office. Administrative and supervisory oversight will be to the Chief, Pharmacy Service or designated pharmacy leader. The Facility PMOP Coordinator supports implementation of PMOP initiatives in compliance with national policy, clinical practice guidelines, and regulatory requirements. They will also support review of community provider opioid prescribing practices (as required by the MISSION Act Section 131). The PMOP coordinator is expected to be involved in clinical care delivery at their facility equivalent to 20% of their time clinical patient care, such as in a Mental Health, Pain Clinic or TelePain program. The remaining time should be engaged in facility PMOP Coordinator support activities described below. The Facility PMOP Coordinator must be able to demonstrate the knowledge and skills necessary to complete the duties of the position, including the necessary skills to provide care appropriate to patients requiring PMOP medication management. Such knowledge and skills include: Communication and interpersonal relations, including the ability to appropriately and courteously relate to internal and external customers as well as the ability to persuade and influence clinical and management decisions. Maintenance of confidentiality of patient/employee information, electronic and print. The NF/SG VHS performance improvement program. How to work and function in the facility in a safe manner, including infection control and the correct operation of equipment. Expert understanding of regulatory and quality standards for the program area. Expert knowledge of the specialized area of clinical pharmacy practice. Advanced skill in monitoring and assessing the outcome of drug therapies, including physical assessment and interpretation of laboratory and other diagnostic parameters.
