ABOUT THIS ROLE
<p>Serves as an Occupational Therapist within rehab and extended care within the Central Iowa VHA. Provide treatment to patients from young adulthood through geriatric age and be able to fulfill their age specific needs. Primary function will be in the outpatient and home settings.</p><h3>Major Duties</h3><p>The VA Midwest Health Care Network advocates for a Whole Health System of care in each of the Medical Centers. This is an approach to healthcare that empowers and equips people to take charge of their health and well-being and live their lives to the fullest. As an employee operating in a Whole Health System of care, you will operate in a model with three core elements, seeking to create a personalized health plan for each Veteran. This is done in the context of healing relationships and healing environments and a connection back to the Veteran's community. This aligns with the Veterans Health Administration (VHA) Mission Statement to Honor America's Veterans by providing exceptional health care that improves their health and well-being. Major duties include but are not limited to: Function within scope of practice to perform evaluation tests and changes treatment pending notification of referring practitioner in case of adverse patient response. Independently evaluating patients as appropriate for their age and diagnosis to determine current levels of functioning. Individual is able to determine specific standardized tools based on the Veteran's individual needs and interpret these finding to establish treatment plan. Establish goals and eventual discharge plans based on evaluation findings and planning with the treatment team, patient, family, and/or significant other. Ability to establish a diagnosis with scope of occupational therapy and determine occupational therapy prognosis based on examination and treatment findings.. Develops and carries out occupational therapy treatment to meet the individual rehabilitation objectives. Conduct treatment interventions one on one with individuals or group settings. Assess the need for and the patient's ability to use adaptive equipment. Independently solves problems not covered by the manuals, adapts and modifies treatment plans, activities and procedures, without supervisory guidance, to meet complex and challenging needs of the patients in rehabilitation. Must provide a clean driving record report from the DMV during onboaring. Physical Examination: A driver's physical is required for this position.
