ABOUT THIS ROLE
<p>The NP is a licensed independent practitioner with advanced education and national certification who provides evidence-based care for a population of patients. Leads performance improvement initiatives that improves care or processes. Engages in evidence-based practice and the application of clinical practice guidelines. Implements quality improvement initiatives that lead to outcomes at the panel/program level.</p><h3>Major Duties</h3><p>Major duties and responsibilities of the position: Independently performs occupational health evaluations including pre-employment exams, fitness-for-duty assessments, and medical surveillance examinations to determine employees' ability to safely perform essential job functions. Manages acute and work-related injuries and illnesses, including initial workers' compensation evaluations, ongoing management, functional assessments, and follow-up care as appropriate. Develops and implements individualized plans to support employee health, workplace safety, and risk reduction. Orders and interprets laboratory tests, diagnostic studies, and medical documentation related to occupational exposures and job requirements. Prescribes pharmacologic and non-pharmacologic interventions within scope of practice for work-related conditions and minor acute issues. Initiates referrals and consults to specialty services when additional evaluation or treatment is indicated. Provides education and counseling to employees regarding workplace hazards, exposure prevention, and health promotion. Collaborates with interdisciplinary teams including Safety, Infection Control, Human Resources, and leadership to promote a safe work environment and regulatory compliance. Ensures HIPAA-compliant documentation and reporting of findings to appropriate facility officials in accordance with VA and OPM regulations. Participates in safety committees, policy review, and performance improvement initiatives related to occupational health services.
