<p>The Advanced Practice Nurse {APN) II Psychiatric-Mental Health Nurse Practitioner {PMHNP) practices in Mental Health {MH) to provide a full range of services emphasizing quality, timeliness, and the advancement of the Veterans Affairs {VA) mission. This position is eligible for the Education Debt Reduction Program (EDRP), a student loan payment reimbursement program.</p><h3>Major Duties</h3><p>Duties include but not limited to: Assess status of veterans with serious mental illness, and planning, intervening and evaluating indicated actions. Knowledge of the principles, concepts, theories, and methodology of General Nursing Practice and Mental Health Nursing practice. Complete history and physical on all new admissions. Participate in the interdisciplinary team in development of a comprehensive plan of care for each patient. Knowledge of normal developmental theory including the aging process and basic concepts of gerontology, knowledge of adult and geriatric psychology, and knowledge of the special needs of the physically disabled and the frail elderly. Complete some skilled nurse functions such as completing primary care clinical reminders, providing medication education and disease education, and obtaining lab work. Knowledge of VHA programs as well as community housing programs that serve the homeless. Skill is using computer applications related to data collection and interpretation, program evaluation, and clinical services. Ability to communicate both orally and in writing with people from diverse backgrounds. Ability to function independently, meets deadlines, and function under pressure.
