ABOUT THIS ROLE
<p>Functions as a clinical expert responsible and accountable for all elements of the nursing process when providing or supervising direct patient care. Assumes responsibility for the program, focusing on patient education, self-management, and customer satisfaction, while influencing care outcomes through interdisciplinary collaboration and innovative process improvement initiatives.</p><h3>Major Duties</h3><p>Duties The Patient Safety & Risk Awareness Supervisory Program Manager (PM) is the designated first-line supervisory authority, responsible and accountable for the operation of their assigned programs, providing coverage for other supervisors as needed. Duties and responsibilities include, but are not limited to: Content Expertise & Program Oversight Serves as the organization-wide content expert for Patient Safety & Risk Management, including Community Based Outreach Clinics (CBOCs). Administers the Clinical Risk Management Program, ensuring compliance with VHA/Network Directives, federal regulations, and broader healthcare laws and standards. Implements National Center for Patient Safety (NCPS) policies and activities; builds and maintains patient safety systems and a culture of safety; supports Root Cause Analysis (RCA) processes at all levels. Leadership, Consultation & Strategic Alignment Acts as consultant to executive leadership on risk and patient safety issues. Leads facility-wide programs meeting National Directive requirements. Aligns objectives with organizational strategic outcomes, participating in strategy planning and execution. Promotes a positive workplace culture to achieve the organization's vision and mission. Engages in professional organizations to enhance leadership and career growth. Communication & Collaboration Communicates effectively orally and in writing with diverse individuals and organizations, including non-VA facilities. Presents to facility leaders on program goals and complex issues. Promotes alliances across the care continuum, building trust through active listening, engagement, and emotional intelligence. Contributes professional nursing perspective in discussions with the interdisciplinary team. Partners with others to effect change and produce optimal outcomes. Reporting & Analysis Provides comprehensive reporting of programmatic outcomes. Collects and submits facility performance measures and makes recommendations to top management. Assesses, plans, implements, and evaluates delivery of care based on age-specific components. Staff Development & Supervision Supervises assigned patient safety and risk management staff. Responsible and accountable for the direction and supervision of specific orientation, training, and development of staff. Evaluates individual staff performance. Oversees staff education, orientation, and competency assessment. Equips staff with tools for competent nursing practice and promotes an environment of accountability for high-quality, cost-effective outcomes. Fosters a safe and supportive environment conducive to the professional development of healthcare professionals. Supports colleagues through knowledge sharing to provide safe, quality nursing care. Provides peers with informal constructive feedback for improvement. Quality & Evidence-Based Practice Drives quality improvement, develops performance measures, and evaluates practice against best evidence. Sustains an evidence-based practice culture and participates in activities and strategies to support it. Questions clinical practices for the purpose of providing evidence-based care. Shares educational findings, experiences, and ideas with peers. Ensures compliance with accreditation and regulatory standards, directives, policies, and standard operating procedures (SOPs). Ethics & Accountability Adheres to ethical principles in decision-making, fostering accountability at personal, organizational, and staff levels. Contributes to the development of care delivery models and environmental design, ensuring evidence-based, accessible, and affordable patient care. Functions as a role model, educator, practitioner, and supervisor, providing leadership to the team. Enhances care outcomes by collaborating with members of the interdisciplinary team to remove barriers and implement new evidence-based programs and processes.
