ABOUT THIS ROLE
<p>This position is eligible for the Education Debt Reduction Program (EDRP), a student loan payment reimbursement program. You must meet specific individual eligibility requirements in accordance with VHA policy and submit your EDRP application within four months of appointment. Approval, award amount (up to $200,000) and eligibility period (one to five years) are determined by the VHA Education Loan Repayment Services program office after complete review of the EDRP application.</p><h3>Major Duties</h3><p>The Mental Health Registered Nurse (RN) delivers fundamental knowledge-based care to assigned clients while developing technical skills. Assesses, plans, implements, and evaluates care based on age-specific components. Assumes responsibility for the coordination of care focused on patient education, self management, and customer satisfaction throughout the continuum of care. Administers medications and procedures per established policies and guidelines. Influences care outcomes by collaborating with members of the interdisciplinary team. Cross training across the Mental Health Service Line is a requisite and travel and programmatic cross-coverage a requirement. Duties include but not limited to: Completes orientation according to expected standards. Works with close supervision, is responsible and accountable for individual nursing practice and seeks direction from others as needed. Manage workload as assigned, organizes, and completes own assignments in an efficient and appropriate manner. Participate in the development, implementation, and evaluation of interdisciplinary care. Establish a therapeutic relationship, allowing the patient to attain, maintain or regain optimal function through assessment and treatment. Engage patients, families, and other caregivers to incorporate knowledge, values, and beliefs into care planning without judgement or discrimination. Aware of high reliability principles to deliver consistent care and improve patient outcomes. Knowledgeable of ethical issues related to professional nursing practice and follows established policies of the practice setting, VA, and ANA Code of Ethics for Nurses. Demonstrate positive, effective communication skills and professional behaviors that promote cooperation and teamwork with internal and external customers. Participate in unit based educational activities and continuing education requirements. Responsible for maintaining competency to continue personal and professional growth. Other duties as assigned.
