<p>We are seeking an energetic, forward-thinking, Registered Nurses (RN) with outstanding communication skills to serve as the Nurse Managers for our Spinal Cord Injury (SCI) unit B and SCI resource pool. SCI B is a 10 bed acute/rehab ventilator unit.</p><h3>Major Duties</h3><p>James A Haley Veterans Hospital and Clinics is looking for energetic leaders for the Nurse Manager position within the Spinal Cord Injury Unit. Functions as a clinical expert and is responsible for and accountable for all elements of the nursing process when providing or supervising direct patient care. Assess plans, implements, and evaluates delivery of care based on age specific components. Assumes responsibility for the coordination of care focused on patient education, self-management, and customer satisfaction throughout the continuum of care. Influences care outcomes by collaborating with members of the interdisciplinary team and creating innovative process improvement initiates. Core elements of performance include knowledge and active participation in the unit/program level of quality improvement process and initiatives as well as customer service programs. Duties listed but not limited to: Provides oversight and direct supervision to assigned direct reports working in inpatient clinical medical/surgical units within SCI acute care with some oversight of Veterans on ventilators. The SCI NM effectively manages clinical and administrative responsibilities, as it relates to assigned clinical area. Manages the daily tasks and activities of the medical/surgical units. The designated first-line supervisory authority and is responsible and accountable for the 24/7 operation of their assigned units and provides coverage for other NMs as needed. The NM provides leadership and supervision to the Assistant Nurse Manager(s) on the team. The NM is responsible for staffing responsible unit(s) on a continual basis and validating data used for the staffing methodology process, if relevant. The NM is responsible and accountable for the direction and supervision of specific orientation, training, development of staff, and timely evaluation of individual staff performance through proficiency and appraisal reviews. They function as a role model, educator, practitioner, and supervisor providing leadership to the team. They influence care outcomes by collaborating with members of the interdisciplinary team to remove barriers and implement new evidence-based cutting-edge programs/processes. This includes the collection, analyzing, trending and reporting of data as it relates to nurse sensitive indicators and risk management findings. The NM engages in professional organizations to enhance leadership and career growth. They adhere to ethical principles in decision-making, fostering accountability at personal, organizational, and staff levels. They collaborate with the Nurse Educators to ensure staff have the appropriate orientation plan and education for annual competencies. They equip staff with tools for culturally competent care and promote a culture of accountability for high-quality, cost-effective outcomes. They cultivate alliances across the care continuum, building trust through active listening, engagement, and emotional intelligence.
