ABOUT THIS ROLE
<p>The Nurse Manger (NM) is a professional nurse who holds twenty-four hour accountability for the management of a defined area of organized nursing services or resident care unit with the Northport VAMC. The incumbent is a first level-nursing manger who functions under the direction and guidance of the Associate Chief of the Service Line in providing clinical and administrative leadership. S/he uses the nursing process to achieve identified goals for the Northport VAMC.</p><h3>Major Duties</h3><p>The Nurse Manager: Is responsible for ensuring an environment that is conducive to the recruitment and retention of highly competent nursing staff with diverse background. Directs practice according to established policies, standard of care, and standards of practice. Responsible to ensure that nursing practice and operations are compliant with all applicable local, VISN, and/or National Standards. Assumes responsibility for staffing and scheduling of permanent and supplemental nursing staff, and ensures that assignments of the staff reflects their appropriate utilization, compliance with staffing guidelines, and Long Term Care Institute (LTCI) and other regulatory standards. Fiscally responsible and participate with the Associate Chief/Geriatrics and Extended Care in planning and monitoring the budget for his/her area of responsibility. Plays a key role in the ongoing systemic evaluation and improvement of the quality and effectiveness of nursing care and services as they affect patient outcomes. Responsible and accountable for maintaining training required and may be assigned additional duties as area needs require. Fosters an atmosphere conductive to educational experiences for nursing and other students. Facilitates an environment of interdisciplinary collaboration and collegial relationships.
