ABOUT THIS ROLE
<p>The Nurse (Sterile Processing Service Educator), delivers a fundamental understanding of adult learning principles as a lifelong learner, practicing with flexibility to adapt or change learning strategies based on assessed needs within the healthcare organization. Assesses, plans, implements, and evaluates educational needs to facilitate learner development and skill training of Sterile Processing and clinical staff.</p><h3>Major Duties</h3><p>Portland is a port city in the Pacific Northwest and the most populous city in the U.S. state of Oregon. Situated in the northwestern area of the state at the confluence of the Willamette and Columbia rivers. Portland is known for having the amenities of a major city (such as an international airport, an efficient public transit system, major league sports teams and many museums and art galleries) and the charms of a small city (such as plentiful arts and crafts fairs, independent bookstores and local traditions like the annual Rose Festival Parade). Rain or shine, you can take advantage of the city's proximity to nature by playing in the Willamette River, wandering through lush public parks and gardens, biking the city's 162 miles (261 km) of bike lanes and hiking trails both within city limits and in the nearby Columbia River Gorge. Duties The Sterile Processing Service (SPS) Nurse Educator demonstrates leadership, experience, and creative approaches to the management of complex patient care through education and training. Duties and responsibilities include, but are not limited to: Educational Design & Instruction Understands instructional design, implementation, and application related to education and training. Utilizes innovative teaching strategies, assessment skills, and evaluation of outcomes. Provides educational instruction and training for Sterile Processing staff. Develops educational trainings for staff within the organization based on identified learning needs. Organizes, participates in, and evaluates all education and training programs. Learning Needs Assessment & Orientation Performs learning needs assessments to identify educational gaps within the organization. Assists with the orientation of new employees, evaluation of their progress in the orientation process, and development and implementation of learning plans to address identified deficiencies. Monitors and tracks education requirements in compliance with organizational standards. Collaboration & Interdisciplinary Support Influences educational outcomes by collaborating with members of the interdisciplinary team. Collaborates with other SPS Nurse Educators and interprofessional healthcare teams in ongoing education activities, including in-services, training, competency assessments, and evaluations of both current and new staff skills. Collaborates with SPS leadership and other SPS administrative roles to identify educational training needs for staff, while supporting activities that foster competence, critical thinking, and decision-making. Assumes responsibility for the coordination of education focused on staff education, self-management, and customer satisfaction throughout the healthcare continuum. Evidence-Based Practice & Quality Improvement Reviews current Sterile Processing literature for new trends and changes based on evidence-based research. Proposes practice and documentation revisions based on evaluation of outcomes. Systematically evaluates current practice and formulates outcomes for all Sterile Processing employees and/or organizational processes within area of expertise. Follows procedures per established policies and guidelines. Mentorship & Professional Development Develops entry-level coaching and mentoring skills. Fosters competence, critical thinking, and decision-making among Sterile Processing staff.
