<p>The Chief Health Informatics Officer (CHIO) at the Tuscaloosa VAMC is part of a nationwide Veterans Health Administration (VHA) team charged with actively and vocally supporting a successful national informatics infrastructure for VHA and advancing national strategies for managing workflow and knowledge in clinical systems. This position provides leadership in designated projects and cross-coverage with other informaticists in the Department of Veterans Affairs (VA).</p><h3>Major Duties</h3><p>Responsibilities include, but are not limited to: Oversight of informatics practice, establishing effective clinical and administrative systems. Designing useful decision support systems, managing and delivering educational experiences. Enhancing life long learning and supporting healthcare research. Program development, project implementation, budget, logistics, ongoing monitoring and analytics. Provide administrative oversight 100% of the time. Will have 24/7 responsibility, accountability and oversight for programs and personnel under the CHIO's supervision, including the provision of quality care which complies with accepted standards of clinical practice. The incumbent is responsible for performance improvement, customer service/patient satisfaction, patient and employee safety, recruitment and retention, employee relations, standards of care and practice, the work environment, and accreditation and regulatory standards. Actively develops and manages collaborative partnerships. The CHIO works in partnership with the union and adheres to EEO principles. The incumbent supports facility and service initiatives, including cultural transformation and patient centered care. Working collegially with other Associate Chiefs of Staff and Chief of Staff Service Chiefs to accomplish the clinical goals and strategic plans of the organization. Participating in organizational planning to include strategic, operational, programmatic and other plans and policies to achieve the mission and vision of the Medical Center. Representing the Health Informatics Service on decision-making committees at the medical center. Participating, as needed, in the provision of clinical care services within the RN's credentials, and/or scope of practice. Providing intervention and counseling to individuals as needed in the course of resolving administrative matters within the program(s). Contributing to the development and implementation of policies and procedures that guide and support the provision of services to patients. Facilitating compliance with standards established by oversight and regulatory entities such as Joint Commission, CARF, OSHA, CAP, OIG, etc. Ensuring timely completion of all program evaluations and documents required by the Medical Center, VISN, and VACO. Developing and participating in Service and facility performance improvement activities designed to improve the effectiveness of quality of care and resource consumption and the efficiency of the respective Service and facility as a whole.
