The NP provides advanced clinical practice, consultation, and management</p><h3>Major Duties</h3><p>The Advanced Practice Nurse (APN) Certified Nurse Practitioner (NP) practices in Medicine Service to provide a full range of services emphasizing quality, timeliness, and the advancement of the Veterans Affairs (VA) mission. The NP provides advanced clinical practice, consultation, and management. The NP practices to the full extent of their education, training, and certification. Core functions are outlined in the clinical privileges that correspond with this position. The NP has prescriptive authority for a panel of patients or program as indicated by their position. FUNCTIONS OF ASSIGNED DUTIES: The NP is a licensed independent practitioner with advanced education and national certification who provides evidence-based care for a population of patients. Independently manages a panel of patients with acute and chronic neurological conditions with an emphasis on health promotion and disease prevention using evidence-based practice. Develops and implements an individualized plan to achieve optimal population health and disease management. Demonstrates leadership and works collaboratively with the neurology team. Orders and interprets labs, tests, and diagnostic studies. Prescribes pharmacologic and non-pharmacologic interventions. Initiates referrals and consults to specialty services. Serves as consultant and provides resources to other departments within the medical center. Provides education to patients and their families. Assesses and adjusts the plan of care as needed to achieve optimal patient outcomes. Participates in quality improvement initiatives to enhance veteran care and clinic operations. Participates in division meetings, grand rounds, and interdisciplinary team activities Basic board certification(s) required as a condition of employment: Family Nurse Practitioner (FNP), Adult Nurse Practitioner (ANP), Acute Care Nurse Practitioner (ACNP), Adult Gerontology Acute Care Nurse Practitioner (AG-ACNP), Adult-Gerontology Primary Care Nurse Practitioner (AG-PCNP), and Gerontology Nurse Practitioner (GNP). The Tucson VA is a tertiary care facility providing a full range of clinical services including complex coronary angioplasty, electrophysiology, structural heart procedures, cardiac surgery, Mohs surgery, neurosurgery, navigational bronchoscopy and 24/7 STEMI services. SAVAHCS has been a flagship quality provider within the VA and was a 2012 winner of the prestigious Robert W. Carey Performance Excellence Award. In the recently released CMS hospital ratings, we are a five-star facility. We are in a growth area for the VA; consequently, the VA is open to major capital investment in our facility. We have a hybrid OR and are in the construction phase for expansions of Primary Care and Emergency Medicine.
