Job Summary

Job Description Summary
This is a unique opportunity including both direct care and assisting in the care of psychosocial and overall mental health services for patients currently enrolled in Cardiac Rehabilitation. If you are passionate about mental health conditions and psychosocial issues this is the position for you!

Responsibilities Include:
-Conduct psychosocial assessments of cardiac rehab patients. Provide short-term 1:1 counseling, either in person or virtually, for individual patients who are referred by the Cardiac Rehab team.
-Develop and facilitate a support group for cardiac rehab patients, the purpose of which is to introduce patients to the concept of group support.
-Provide community resources for cardiac rehab patients and their families and make referrals to appropriate agencies: e.g., psychotherapy resources; senior centers, mindfulness courses, substance abuse resources, and other agencies that provide support for the patient’s disabilities and comorbidities. Collaborate with Community Wellness Coordinator as well.
-Teach and support cardiac rehab staff members about mental health issues, including but not limited to: assessment of suicidality, the psychiatric sequalae of cardiac surgery and cardiovascular disease, and the impact of critical illness on the family system.

Responsibilities May Include:
-Teach and develop classes, in particular, classes in the Resilience series, which cover behavior change, Cognitive Behavior Therapy (CBT), goal setting, stress management, and mindfulness. There is opportunity to develop additional material for cardiac patients, e.g., the psychiatric sequelae of cardiovascular disease, chronic illness, and cardiac procedures.
-Spend time counseling and providing support to cardiac rehab patients during their cardiac rehab appointments.

Essential Functions
-Conduct individual and group counseling sessions for clients experiencing mental health issues, emotional difficulties, and behavioral challenges.
-Conduct comprehensive mental health assessments and screenings to identify clients' specific concerns and diagnoses.
-Provide crisis intervention and immediate support to clients in distress or facing emergencies.
-contribute to the development and enhancement of mental health counseling programs, including designing new interventions and workshops.
-Provide clinical supervision and mentorship to junior counselors, guiding their professional growth and development.
-Collaborate with other mental health professionals, medical staff, and community resources to ensure comprehensive care for clients.

Qualifications

Education

• Master of Counseling/Psychology/Related field from an accredited program from an accredited program required. Can this role accept experience in lieu of a degree? No.

Licensure:

• Require current Massachusetts Licensed Mental Health Counselor (LMHC).

Experience

• Experience providing mental health counseling, with a focus on diverse populations and complex mental health conditions. 5-7 years required.

• Experience in cardiac rehab strongly preferred.

Knowledge, Skills and Abilities

• Proven expertise in evidence-based counseling techniques, crisis intervention, and trauma-informed care.

• Strong leadership and mentoring skills, with the ability to supervise and support junior counselors.

• Excellent communication and interpersonal abilities, capable of building rapport and fostering a therapeutic relationship with clients.

• Knowledge of ethical guidelines and legal regulations in mental health counseling.

• Flexibility to work some evenings and weekends, as needed.
