ABOUT THIS ROLE
<p>This position is located in the Health Information Management (HIM) section of the Business Office at the Bay Pines VA Healthcare System (BPVAHCS). The MRT (ROI) reviews and processes requests for patient protected health information (PHI). The MRT (ROI) also provides direct customer service to the Veteran (or third party), by providing copies of the Veteran's PHI, when a signed, written request is received, or upon the Veteran's valid authorization to a third party.</p><h3>Major Duties</h3><p>Medical Record Technician duties and responsibilities include but are not limited to: Receive and validate authorization forms and requests for information and prioritize requests according to policies and regulations. Process and release health information to authorized first- and third-party requestors. Communicate with internal and external stakeholders to provide technical expertise regarding the release of information process. Provides direct customer service to Veteran, their Personal Representative. Composes responses to routine requests for release of patient information. Evaluate and validates request. Receives and directs callers and visitors. Search records or files to compose responses, including electronic searches. Interpret and analyze laws and regulations related to the disclosure of health information. Resolves conflicting or inconsistent information found on initial requests. Processes Social Security request for health information using ROI software. Work Schedule: Monday - Friday 8:00am to 4:30pm Telework: Not Authorized Virtual: This is not a virtual position. Selective Service Registration is required for males born after 12/31/1959. Must be proficient in written and spoken English. Subject to background/security investigation.
