ABOUT THIS ROLE
<p>The Licensed Practical Nurse positions are located at the Lebanon VA Medical Center within Nursing Services, Primary Care Services. The primary purpose of this position is to perform a very wide range of patient personal care, support diagnostic services, and chart activities on a regular and continual basis on a surgical, medical, rehabilitation, psychiatric, or long-term care ward or clinic.</p><h3>Major Duties</h3><p>Under the supervision of a licensed registered nurse (RN), the licensed practical nurse (LPN) functions as a member of the nursing team and assists the RN in the care of patients in acute, sub-acute, or chronic states of illness. The LPN delivers fundamental, knowledge-based care to assigned patients while developing technical competencies. Support diagnostic procedure: Receives patients scheduled for the various clinics or arriving for other ambulatory care. Assists patients with getting on and off examination table. Escorts ambulatory patients and transports patients via litter or wheelchair, when required. Ensures all specimens are labeled according to hospital policy. Sets up examination room by providing necessary instruments and supplies, ensuring clinic area and equipment is aseptically clean and in order, and assures patient charts and necessary information is available. Assists providers and nurses by supplying needed equipment, providing information such as, vital signs, weight, observations, and information obtained from patient. Assures smooth clinic operations by directing the patient to the appropriate area. Inventories, orders, restocks needed linens, supplies, and reports defective equipment. Detects and reports unsafe work conditions. Uses correct protective personal equipment and standard precautions in all areas of patient care. Maintain order and cleanliness in storage and work areas. When setting pay, a higher step rate of the appropriate grade may be determined after consideration of higher or unique qualifications or special needs of the VA (Above Minimum Rate of the Grade). Paid Time Off: 37-50 days of annual paid time offer per year (13-26 days of annual leave, 13 days of sick leave, 11 paid Federal holidays per year) Selected applicants may qualify for credit toward annual leave accrual, based on prior [work experience] or military service experience. Parental Leave: After 12 months of employment, up to 12 weeks of paid parental leave in connection with the birth, adoption, or foster care placement of a child.
