<p>This LPN, Mental Health position is locate at the Alvin C. York VA in Murfreesboro, TN.</p><h3>Major Duties</h3><p>The primary purpose of the Licensed Practical Nurse is to perform assigned duties in a manner that promotes quality health care, positive customer service and the maintenance of an environment committed to serving the veteran. The LPN/LVN also performs assigned duties in a manner that promotes quality health care, outstanding customer service, and the maintenance of an environment committed to serving the veteran. The LPN has basic knowledge and skills necessary for a concentrated effort and is somewhat independent in carrying out standardized procedures of limited complexity. The incumbent is responsible to deliver fundamental, knowledge-based care to assigned patients while developing technical competencies. This position may entail other duties as assigned and travel duties as assigned and travel to the community level clinics a. Participates in the interdisciplinary team in the development, implementation, and evaluation of the patient's treatment plan. b. Interacts with patients in groups in accordance with the patient's treatment plan c. Observes, identifies, and responds to the patients' needs for nursing, medication, and equipment assisted care and recognizes deviations from normal. d. Uses practical knowledge of human behavior, motivations, and reactions to situations in working effectively with patients, family, and other staff members. e. Demonstrates the knowledge, skill, and ability to recognize and respond appropriately to emergency situations. Patient Care Activities, as appropriate to assignment, includes but is not limited to: 1. Assists with data collection for outpatients and new admissions 2. Provides for the patient's privacy. 3. Observes, reports, and documents signs and symptoms of patient's general condition. Attends patient care conferences. Provides input into the Nursing Care Plan and/or the Interdisciplinary Plan of Care. 4. Provides direct nursing care to adult and geriatric patients according to nursing standards and Medical Center policy and procedure. This includes, but is not limited to: a. Bathing, showering, oral care, shaving, nail care, feeding, turning, positioning, and ambulating as directed. b. Collecting and labeling specimens, e.g. sputum, emesis, urine, and stools. c. Performing enterostomal care, perinea! care, administering enemas, and colostomy irrigations. d. Providing bowel/bladder training, applying external urinary devices, and performing bladder catheterization. e. Providing oral, nasopharyngeal, and tracheal care. .f. Administering oxygen as directed. g. Administering enteral feedings. h. Providing wound care as ordered and reporting any changes and/or progress to the RN. i. Applying abdominal binders, anti-embolic stockings, ace bandage, and alternating pressure boots as directed. j. Providing for lifting, moving, transferring, and/or transporting patients. k. Using patient lifting devices, pressure relief mattresses, hyper/hypothermia blankets, electronic scales, and feeding pumps. I. Applying protective/supporting devices, restraints as directed and per policy. m. Providing post-mortem care as directed.
